What is your current setup i.e weight/placement, speed, TAPS? Post up some pics also!
The Z1seems to like ballast in the front.

Current set-up is a 2008 Z1 and just starting with the ballast at this point using manual Tsunami pump. Been out only once since board purchase and have placed ballast in back right storage, back right seat, and one on floor in the pass thru to bow seating. Tried Taps high and low and about 3-4 gave cleanest wake at 9.5-10 mph. Great tip about the Z1 liking fwd weight for surfing as I will acquire a center bow cushion and may load that area up with a fat boy. Once dialed in, I will try the other link that was great info for a custom install once I figure out the best configuration.
I was not real impressed with my first run as far as the wake, but I have heard great reviews about Z1 surfing if done right. My problem is that I just need to get some advice from the experienced and follow it.
Thanks for the input and I will let you know how it goes. On the road and provide picks upon return.
The Z1 throws a pretty damn good surf wake. I'm 200lbs and was able to surf one on a CWB Tsunami 4.9 with no ballast and only a driver and spotter taking pics. Next we filled the stock tank, front sac, and threw a 400lb V-drive on top of the stock tank and it was sweet, had a pretty long pocket. I did find it liked to be about 11-12 mph which was about 1mph faster then my 22Ve liked. TAPS at 4-5.
What weight sacs are you running, stock tanks and/or aftermarket sacs?

hey this is what we got out of ours with just factory ballast and 4 people..
rear port filled
rear starboard empty
front 3/4 full
3people on the port side
No stock ballast on the boat. Have 3 400lb V-Drive sacks that I have been tinkering with. I am going to pick up an intergrated bow sack tomorrow and hit the surf. Based on the various ideas I am going to fill up the bow, both V-Drive sacks in the rear storage areas, and fill another V-Drive sack on the aft right seat behind the driver (surfing right side of wake for now). I will play with this config at a faster speed than the 10mph that I have been trying and clean up the wake with Taps 3-5.
If all goes well, I will move towards permanent insallation.
Can't thank you guys enough for the input and I will take the camera and hopefully return with proof of a great surfing wake.
I would also try 2 of the 400's in the right side storage and no weight on left.
