    A grabbed aerial

I loved this picture, the board is almost perpendicular to the wave and grabbed, a difficult combination.

That is just sic!!!! I can do that on a wakeboard Does that count???

Does Judy take all those pictures?? She does a great job and you must go threw a ton of pictures before you find 1 good one.

That looks awesome... Keep doing that well and your son will be a house name in no time.... You know your son is already #1 wakesurfer on this site.. You are #2...

p.s. You would be #1 but we see more pictures of James.

Most of the pics Judy does take, but the few that I am going to post on here were taken by Bre - Dennis' daughter. I think that Bre has quite an extensive background in college level courses in photography. Interesting enough Judy has the timing down perfect, she waits for James to pump and then counts to 2 or something and the clicks Seems to nail the pictures pretty close to the peak of the aerials.

James is so much better than I am! I am beyond proud of that boy. It's such a wonderful family activity and to have James love it and excel at it is a blessing.

Once again your and your son James are awsome and love to see the pics and stores. Keep them coming...

PS I almost landed a 360 last night, had all the rotations down just missing the pocket and fall out. I hope to land it by the end of weekend.

Question - how do you get enough speed to get that much air? Does he start at the back of the pocket and just pump like crazy? I know that board is pretty fast but I imagine you still have to help it get more speed. What speed are you guys riding at?

It's only partially about speed. This particular board has some unique features that give it "squirt". Squirt, if you will, is like torque in a car. It creates that HUGE bottom end or off-the-line feeling of power, but has no top end or true down the line speed.

If you review some of my molded rail, springer and the red rail threads you'll see all the ingredients. Now, without a doubt, James is an exception athlete, but the board is really dialed into his style.

I'm going to show you two pictures taken from the Texas Wakesurf Championships. Both were taken from about the same place. You'll recognize James, the other rider is Johnny Stieg, nicest guy ever. He currently rides for Shred Stixx, but also has a Pro Model availabel through New Wave Vehicles.

I want you to pay close attention to the distance from the left side of the pictures.

Do you see how much further to the left Johnny is? His quad set up has incredible top end or down the line speed, but not much squirt. James was able to lauch in about 1/2 the length or run up. At this contest, the lip was really bad closer towards the boat. Further back it was crisp, so James was able to get better release off the solid part of the lip, further back, whereas the other contestants had to pump twice as much to generate the same speed and get that release.

On a wake with a crisp solid lip up front, James can get about twice the amount of air pictured here. No one has seen it yet, but he easily generates more air than the wake is high...truly boosting.

Typically, for boards without the internal structure that James is riding, speed is the key, James' board has probably twice the squirt of most boards available and then a component structure that sort of "kicks" him off the lip.

Surfdad, Thats awesome!! James is the man and lucky to have a dad with your support and love for the sport.

Question...I have a 'butter board' which I believe is a beginer board. I've been trying to get some air but I cant seem to get the fins out of the water. Im 6'2' 195, and considering the shredd stix mako.. is it a good board for someone my size? Does the board make a huge difference? I have a skating/ollie background and can get my butter board off the water, but not by much. Your input would be much appereciated.

That is just "mind bottleing" It's hard for me to relate to how he gets that pop off of the wave. rhutchins7, I have the butter board as well. I would classify it as a beginner to intermediate but not fast enough for any air. Although I love that board.

But again, the wake that surfdad makes. Is only 5 feet Okay maybe not that hight but it's damn close.
