Well, we were bored one day and I'd seen some folks surf on Lake Austin about 3 years ago. I found my old HO Skurfer (which was shred ready according to its graphics) and told my boys, "let's try something new." The board still had its strap bindings, but we forgot to tighten them so one fell off and we just took them both off. We weighted the boat down on one side and went real slow. We never managed to free surf, but it was fun anyways.
Later that summer, my son got to surf behind one of the first ever 22Ves and free surfed for the first time. To top it off, I was a runner up in the Pimp Your Tige drawing at our Tige Reunion and won a $500 stereo gift certificate. I'd just upgraded my stereo and added tower speakers, so I traded with one of one of the other finalists for the LF Skimskate he won. He didn't know what it was for and needed better tunes so it worked out.
So, it was hot and guess what we found in the back of the garage...again. Well, my kids rode it and they were able to free surf, but the front of the board had no traction pad. I had some Gator Grip left over, so we put it on the board. Guess what, my son was able to ride it pretty well and even pulled off a 360...his first 360 on any surf board.
