Hi guys, I have never tried to wakesurf. I am very interested in giving it a try. I have an old surf board from my younger days as a beach bum. It is a 6’2; will this work just to get a feel for it? Also what kind of rope should I use, and how long should it be, do I tie it to the tower or the back of the boat? Can I just buy some regular old rope a home depot and tie a few knots in it, at various lengths. Do I have the boat driven in a straight line or in a circular motion, what speed should we do this at? I have a 22I with no ballast will this even work? Thanks for any information you can provide to me.

Good news. You can use your board and you don't really need ballast if you can bring along a few friends. It's easier to get up if you put the rope on the tower and you don't want to use a rope with a wake-board handle. A smaller trick ski handle (about the width of 1 hand) works also.

Also, an old wakeboard rope that has the braided end on it will work if you cut off the handle:

You'll want to try speeds between 9 & 11 Mph with everyone sitting on one side of the boat. It's pretty cool!

Solid advice. Also, start with your taps at 8 and adjust down from there. You're going to need to be in pretty close to the boat, so be careful with the nose of that 6'2". I started on an 8'10" Bear behind my 22i way back when. No worries. When it comes to picking up a downed rider, just stop. Do not power turn. Just cut the throttle, crank the wheel, wait for the wake to pass and drop it in gear. Versus a power turn, its faster, cheaper (gas), easier, better.

Tip: Watch the wax. It's going to make a mess of your interior.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Power turns are especially ugly when you're wakesurfing. You'll be guaranteed to submerge your bow and maybe other parts of your boat.

dogbert, since you have a 99 your probably used to always driving like that. Those noses sit down pretty low anyway. We are constantly stopping and waiting, stopping and waiting. But it is fun to drench newbies sitting in front once in a while Just gotta make sure the bilge is working.....

When a surfer drops I steer to the left for about 2-4 sec then turn back right. That flattens out the wake and no water over the front or even a wave at all. Works well. My wife learned the hard way why I do what I do when I drive she sent about a 3.5 wave over the front of the bow, Kids were out. All I could say it Holy $hit..... LOL All is well now, she will listen to what I say. I think

OK, the first thing you need is a rope, a boat, a board and a driver

I live in Burbank. Usually I head out to Castaic. However, this weekend we are heading to Buna Vista for a few days.
