    Nashville Tenessee folks

Anyone familar with the section of the Cumberland river in downtown Nashville across from the Titans stadium? How fast is the river running in that area? I'm trying to see if I can duplicate the conditions out here in Northern California, either on the Sacramento or American rivers.

The flow of the river changes depending upon if the dam/lock is open or flowing water out upstream. Sometimes the current is slow and sometimes it is 3-7 mph.

Hey lee thanks! 3 to 7 is freaking fast! Is there any schedule, or is the dam/lock typically closed around the beginning of September or is it strictly dependent on runoff at that time? In CA many of the lakes/reserviors feed the water supply in Southern California and/or EPA regulations require a specific flow to insure adequate water supply to the "glow-in-the-dark five fin mud guppies of the upper northern arm of the lower south fork of whatever river"

It is a navigable water way so when ever boats need to pass thru the lock they have to open it up.

One of the many reason why they dump so much water out of the lakes in NorCal.

Lee, when you say boats, are you talking about yacht type boats or only mercantile ships? I am only familar with the draw bridges we have here. Sailboats with tall masts require the bridges to open, I don't think I've ever seen a lock in operation.

It would seem to me that if it's just commercial stuff then the weekends should be somewhat slower, but if it's large pleasure craft the weekends will be a faster flow.

Centurion is holding the World's there this year, with no practice session. A few of the locals were saying - that is going to be a challenging venue, at first, but now they don't seem to even breath heavy

It is what it is, Centurion isn't going to change the venue at this point, it would be good to have a handle on the wake to prepare a run before hand. The upstream pass will be best suited towards surface tricks and the downstream pass best suited to aerials. It's become such a political nightmare that all the Centurion supporters merely proclaim IT WILL BE THE BEST EVER! Whatever, that isn't helpful or truthful - just give us some facts so that folks can plan accordingly.

I wish the contarians would shut up also, we'd have more luck getting non-persuasive info if they weren't attacking everything Centurion said.

Anyway if anyone can share some more "truth" about that section of the river, I'd really appreciate it.

There is barge/tugboat traffic and the anything else from PWC's to million dollar yachts going through the lock.

Thanks Lee for the info. Ok, so the TVA is releasing 3500 cfs for 8 hours each night from 11pm thru 6am. That's a bunch of water...unless I am losing my mind, that is 750 million gallons during that 8 hour period. Is that representative of what it will be like in the late summer, do you know?

So during that night and early morning that river is going to be flowing FAST, probably slowing during the day. If the contest starts at 8am, the flow is going to be faster in the morning than later in the afternoon...barring any changes due to weather, etc.

                  750 million gallons! That's amazing.

If you look at the schedule from the previous day they released water all day long and at times it was 5700cfs.

                    Past 24 hours

At noon! Ok, this contest will be held the weekend AFTER the Labor day holiday. And May 31 is before the June 1 - thru Labor day schedule that the TVA has established to maintain flow...so that would seem to indicate that May 31 is a close approximation to what 9/6-7 will be like. That would seem to indicate the river will be flowing pretty fast in September.
