So should I look at a different board? Thinking a ronix stage, cwb razr? I need something that anyone can have a good chance at getting up on. I take alot of people out and need to be able to have something that is easier.

I use a hyperlite broadcast for the bigger surfers and a liquid force skim skate for those not so big. They seem to work fine for those that are just learning.

As far as wearing jackets, we do all the time. However this was my bro in a photo session with 2 lifeguards in the boat and a chase PWC. We also are on a lake that is on the boarder so international waters take effect. We can get a ticket but only in the states. No body looks at the canadian side. Also, nobody wears lifejackets any more. We have a few PFD's for the boat. We have some floatation vests that we wear but none of them are coast guard approved.
Just so you know, it only takes a few seconds for your body to sink after you hit your head and get knocked out. Not enough time for someone to jump in and save you.

I dont thinks, I'm bigger then you and have no probs surfing behind my 22Ve with 700#'s on out Tsunami. I've taught a handful of newbies, from 11yr old's and up, to surf on it with great success.

I am a National Certified Lifeguard, highest in Canada. I appreciate the input, however I do not really need to be told. We understood the risks. We were both right there if there was an issue. I am positive that we could have been in the water before he got farther then ten feet away. The lake is only 15 feet deep to. We always wear floatation devices, just not certified. Just for this one 3 min set he chose not too. I am a huge stickler on flotation devices and safety.

Heres one with a floaty. Check out the wake. Does it look ok? We have a heck of a time getting dialed. Seems like it is easier when it is smaller. We can make it monstrous but it gets really soft.

Wake looks ok, plenty surfable The experts say; weight in the back will build the wake, adding some weight up front will lengthen the pocket, but can take away from the height a little. Minor speed and TAPS changes will help clean it up, just takes time to get it dialed in.

For us we get the best push with only weight in the back corner. Adding weight upfront does lengthen the pocket, but you have to work harder to stay in it.

Does anyone find that the drivers side wake is much easier to make? That wake gets montrous, clean and long. Looks like a cresting ocean wave. But we cant get the left side to look like that.

Yes, the rotation (counter clockwise) of the prop helps to make that side cleaner than the port side.

That doesn't sound right guys. The most common prop rotation is LH which tends to favor the port side, aren't all Tige's LH? The prop rotation is a factor, but not the only factor. I think typically if you find the drivers side easier to "shape" and your prop rotation isn't RH it's because the driver is a big guy and it tends to offset the wake (if you have a 250 pound driver you have to add 500 pounds of weight on the port side to balance that out for surfing) - stick a 100 pound driver up there and my guess is that the port side is cleaner than the darkside.

Loud how fast are you going? A slower speed will affect the hardness of the wake. The 3 big manufacturers' pop-outs just don't have much speed and that may have an impact on your riding. They're OK to learn on, but if you want to progress you have to ditch them and step up your board.

Ahh great. I just baught a ronix too. Hoping to try it out this weekend. I guess I should have spent money on a loogey or something? I find the tsunami to be pretty fast as I have a tendancy to run into the back of the boat.

I am usually the driver or my one brother. I am 180 lbs as well as my brother. No matter where we put the weight, we just cant get it as big, clean and long as the driver side wake.

We usually ride around 10-12 mph depending on weight.

That secondary lip is coming from the swimdeck, I presume. Is it the same way on the darkside? I can see how the riffle would mess up the lip and face.

Could be. When I get my boat back and in the water I will check it out.

It is a matter of playing around with weight and TAPS setting. It seems like our "normal" settings are TAPS at 3.5, speed (on our speedo) 13.5 (I think it is more like 11.5 on my GPS), and 350 lb ballast in rear locker, and a few people on the side of the wake, with 1 person up front. The easiest way I found to dial it is without a person surfing and just make some minor changes.... start with speed (see what looks best), fine tune it with TAPS, and adjust length by moving people in the boat (stern to bow).

                                Have fun!!!!
