    Surfdad,

I'm not sure about the numbers but this spring there is no fishing for salmon on the Columbia West of the I-5 bridge.

A wake can be pretty destructive if, as the study showed, it's either really big (at slow speeds) or very erratic and in close proximity to my dock.

When we wakesurf, we tend to go into the middle of the lake or away from areas where there are docks and other boats.

I agree and do the same, but on the river it is a bit more difficult to maintain a large distance between the boat and shore. Unless I hit powerball the thought of my owning waterfront property here on the left coast is unlikely, and I do feel for the homeowner whose boat is getting dinged up b/c of wake boats putting out too much wake in close proximity to the dock. But EROSION, you really expect me to believe that the difference between my wake and that of an I/O is that much different that it is destroying actual land?

Sounds too me like a bunch of old people, whose kids are grown, are complaining b/c they no longer use the water for recreation and now want to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the water. Pretty soon they are going to regulate and regulate until boating is restricted to a few waterways and they are crammed and unsafe. Look at ATV/Dirtbiking, they cram everyone into a small area because someone found some rare mold spore in an area where everyone used to ride.......it's fing frusterating.

These homeowners better be careful what battles they chose to wage, because there are much worse things that boaters can inflict upon them (Ever Hear Sir Mix A Lot 'Baby's Got Back' on volume 8 with my Wetsounds aimed your way)........

If it's property that we wish to save, then lets all get together and ban tornados while were at it...........

When we surf we try to stay away from areas that have docks. I think the real problem are the people that don't give a crap and drive their boats wherever and however they want. Doing figure eights for your tubers in an area that has docks is just plain and simple inconsiderate.

Well, the problem that I have with rules on wake size is that a loaded wake boat puts up less wake than an IO that isn't on plane. Lots of boats don't ever get on plane, especially when towing kids. Are we going to ban those activities as well?

No, because it will be like most everything else. They dont actually fix the problem, but change/add rules and laws to give the appearance of addressing the problem.

It's like adding tougher DWI laws when they dont enforce the ones already on the books. It's like tougher gun control laws that dont slow down the real criminals from obtaining guns.

They will go after the wake boats because they appear to be the worst offenders, instead of getting to the root cause and coming to a compromise that will make everyone happy.
