which surf board is best for us?

Hey, we're new to this forum. We got hooked on wakesurfing last year and just bought ourselves a 2002 tige 20v rider's edition so we can surf it up this summer. We learned on our friend's Hyperlite Broadcast on his Sanger 215V and liked it a lot. The only complaint was that it was pretty easy for the tip to go under water while surfing. I can deal with this if you all still think this is the best board for us to buy this summer for our own boat, but I was wondering if there were any others we should consider that would be better relating to the tip problem as well as giving us some room on the board to advance to maybe some tricks down the road.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. Great choice in the boat. I had a 2002 20V Riders Edition before I upgraded.
Many people will chime in here about board recomendations. Kind of depends on your weight and what type of surf wave you generate.
    Let it be!!!

Congrats, and welcome to the tige family. Post some pics when you can.

Here is one recent thread with good info on the most popular boards. http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5652

Choose a board that fits as many riders as possible (not all at once tho ) too big is hard for small rider, to small is hard for bigger riders.

          Budget.

Skill level (seems to go along with cost as usual)

Thanks for the welcome and input. Within our crew we're all between 120 lb to 170 lb, but occasionally we have friends out that can range up to 220 lb. A big range to cover unfortunately. I'll post some pics of the boat. Can't wait to get it on the water in the next coming months!

I just posted some pics of our new boat in the Member Galleries. You'll get to it if you type "tigecrew" in the search box.

You might want to try a surf skate style board. My kids really like riding TrickBoardz. If you bury the nose, you won't necessarily fall. It's very maneuverable.

                    Greg,

Good to see you're still pushing the SS boards, how many do you own now? We still love our Shredd Stixx Thresher Shredder, but dang it's a long time until surf season....
We might have to make another spring time journey to Disco Bay?

Okay, after much research we decided on the '07 Inland Surfer Red Tide. We got it new on Ebay for $299. It just arrived today! That sucker is huge! It should be easy getting anyone up on it, especially the 200+ lb. buddies, but now I'm wondering if it's going to be TOO big to maneuver very well for our lighter, 120 lb riders. Any thoughts? We'll know soon enough once we can finally get on the water with it this summer (can't wait!) but just wondered what other's experience was with it for the lighter riders.

One more thing. On one edge of the board we noticed there's this small hairline crack, pretty shallow and about 1/2" long. Any suggestions on what we should use to seal, patch, etc. it so it doesn't get any bigger?

Thanks in advance for both questions.

The board will be fine for the lighter riders. My daughter is 110 - 115. She likes the smaller boards better but she has been on the red tide for a year. Shes moving to the yellow this year

                          Tigecrew,

After moving from beginner to novice (barely) surfer and riding a couple different boards including xp's Rid Tide, here a is my

That board will be great for anybody to ride and even newbies to learn on. If you have a lite-weight thrasher, it may be too much board to throw around.

As far as fixing the chip/crack. I used one of those 2 part gel-coat repair kits with the little tint tubes, to touch up some spots on our boards. Sand around the area, mix a little epoxy (you can leave it clear or add a little color), and fill it in, sand down, buff it. Just like fixing a spot on the boat.

Good luck, you will like that Red tide.

                            Hey Sagmanour;
How's life up in the cold wet territory? Probably the same as here.. cold, and wet. I havn't been riding for some time now. I'm starting to get antsy though. You know, you and your wife always have an open invitation to come back to Disco Bay.
As far as how many boards do I have (?) Down to 3. JaMako, Thresher, and a Chase Hazen Custom. I'm sure a quick walk to Jerrys house can fill the open space. Keep in touch!

I was toying with the idea of getting a Trick Boardz type board this offseason, but man I do love the Thresher.
It's good to know we have an open invite down there. I would love to come down and watch the Blazers play Golden State, but it will still be a little cold out when they play (I believe it is in March).

You are right, it is cold and wet. Great time for the snowboarders though, I belive most of the slopes have a 10' + base.

I did get a balance board for Christmas, so hopefully that will help get my legs in shape when I do get on the water.

We should try to get a group of Tige owners to meet at Shasta this summer, anybody interested?

                              Ciao,

                              Steve
