    RZ4 surf help

I am sure ya'll have seen the pics of the new Wet Sounds RZ4. I have only had it in the water a few times and then had to head out to surf expo with it.

I want to know if anyone has found a good set up for surfing on this boat?

I have the factory ballast system plus two 350 locker sacs in the side for regualr surf. Plus the batteries in the back. 4 Kinteik batteries with 2 on each side. They weigh 70 pounds each. So another 140 pounds in each rear locker. With the 2 factory batteries in the facotry location.

So I figure we had the 225 plus 140 plus the factory batteries in the rear locker for around 400, plus 700 in the side locker plus 450 front sac and 7 people in it and could not get it to get sideways or produce a clean wave.

Next time out we put 750 in nose on seat without front tank filled. Factory tank filled and side sacs filled with another 750 on the seat. Got it sideways but still couldn't clean it up. So total around 2500 just in ballast plus 6 people.

We are going to take it out soon and bring a bunch of pop bags and different sacs to try to find the right locations etc..

Anyone with an RZ4 that has any input?

    Thanks

    Tim

    Tim,

We don't have an RZ4, we have a 24 ve. I know I have heard that you will get a strange line in the wave because of the swim platform. Your setup sounds pretty good. On our 24ve, we usually have 750 in the rear locker on the port side, about 300 in the rear locker on the starboard side, and 300 on the port side of the bow with everyone sitting on the port side. We usually surf at about 11 mph with taps anywhere from 1-8 depending on the amount of people in the boat. I wish I could help you more.

You might want to fill some of the starboard side ballast and use the people in the boat to list it to the port side. Sometimes that will clean up our wave even though it sounds opposite of the norm.

    Good luck.

IMO on our RZ2, the bow weight destroys the wave. Our best wave comes from a lot of weight in the locker and then people in the seats on that side and then a sac on the floor in front of them. We don't get a super long pocket but it's clean and a decent height. We never run bow weight anymore.

I agree with Timmy. I have found that the Ve/RZ hull seems to like less weight in the bow their predecessor. I'm running about 25% front/75% surf side rear, and none on the non-surf side. Working good but always looking to make it better

We even tried filling both v-drive sacs and putting them in the 1 corner ~900 lbs or so and that wave was awesome but didn't have a long pocket, had a really tall wave and a super wide pocket that was maybe 10' long.

Not trying to hijack, Tim, but this is kinda where we are....good height, great shape, nice curl at the top, but not a long pocket at all.

So it looks like some serious experimenting time!!

This weekend I will be at the dealers meeting so next weekend will be time to experiment.

ours is a 24ve but same running hull. 1200 pounds in the rear(600 on both sides) sit a few peeps up front(this keeps more of the hull in the water to displace more) and keep everyone to one side. make sure you drive as straight as you can. alot of boats need to be turned a bit but not tige's. it is the very cleanest and best while driving straight. taps anywhere from 1-6. i need to get some pics of our surf wake on here. it's impresive. i havn't seen anyone post pics on here with as big or clean a wake as ours
