They do release water a little better - anytime water bends it sticks, so smoother shapes will provide a little better release, but probably more importantly the smoother shape is less prone to stress fractures.
i would agree with that, my bullet has about a 1 inch notch and is pretty square unlike your bullets, and i notice this bullet is a little sticky, i thought it was due to the length. the thing is a blast when the wave is big enough
