Need some I either get going to fast and hit the back of the boat or get behind and slow down too much where i cant stay on the wake anylonger... what do i need to do to keep steady??

Just keep riding. Once I got the wake big enough to surf, I had a hard time accelerating with out running up on to the swim platform and then backing off too much and loosing the pocket What I found that works for me is to dip my front shoulder towards the boat to speed up and straighten up to slow down. Even though I am somewhat of a newbie, I have taught at least 8 people to wakesurf without the rope. I tell them to try to touch the front of the board to go faster and to try to touch the back of the board to slow down. This causes you to bend your knees and learn how to distribut your weight. Also, if you are going down the face of the wake fast towards the boat, you can also turn up the wave to slow down. Feet placement is also key, have your feet more wakeside and if you are always going too fast, move back on your board and if you are not keeping up, move your front foot or both feet forward. Other than that, it is practice, practice, practice.

chp nailed it. It is all about SMALL weight transfers. Where new surfers usually run into problems is by shifting their weight too extremely. They will lean forward to accelerate and then start heading toward the transom and SLAM on the brakes by leaning back way too far. It's all about small, fluid, incremental weight shifts. It doesn't take much too slow down and that's where most people lose the pocket.If you ain't falling.. you ain't trying hard enough..

Yeah, all good advice. I would recommend just one thing differently. Learning or getting that weight transfer down is just a matter of mileage. After a period of time, it gets locked into muscle memory and you'll wonder why it was a problem.
To give you more mileage QUICKER, don't drop the rope. Concentrate only on creating slack in the rope. If there is slack in the rope, you're free surfing, but...if you slow too much and start to float out the back...you can use the rope to keep you surfing. It'll double your surfing time.

^^Thats what Ive been doing... I have noticed if i get on the edge more of the board towards the wake I seem to be going a longer distance but idk... I like getting my boarding rope and make it where its just past the rooster tail and pull my self up on it. Its fun!!For Those About To Ride We Solute You

all good advice...finding nuetral is prolly the first thing(slack in the rope),from there you can work on workin the face for energy verses stayn on the hot part of the wave, that comes later...not lettin go of the rope will increase your milage and aid in the learning curve, be super careful u dont get caught up in the rope when u crash,also bros on the boat mabe not stoked u never crashin..haha..foot positioning is a good place to start

a safe bet is try n find the rocker point on the bottom of your board..try in stradle that spot 50/50.first dial in the brakes then dial in the gas,then u surfin....if your board has no rocker..back foot just forword the fins is a good place to start.. remember...dont just lean forward at the boat to try n stay up with it...u gotta lean twards the center of the wave,aiming the tip of the board at the roostertail and diggin a rail,sorta like u makin a bottom turn only up the face of the wave..u have more speed than u know what to do with!

1 thing I found to help too, is to not necessarily shift your whole body to put weight on your front foot to speed up or on your back foot to brake... but to shift your butt (or the middle of your body) towards the boat or away to control speed.
Also if you are falling back in the wake, try "pumping" the board to get speed.. hard to explain, but if you allow the front of the board to slightly "climb" the wake and pump it back down (kinda a zig-zag motion), it can also create speed.

Not sure if it helps but after watching these videos www.mobgroup.tv these guys seem to pump the board and carve just like real surfers to maintain their speed. I am not sure if this is good or not, but these guys rip. I am just at the slack stage of the rope and find it hard to stay in the pocket before losing too much speed.Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.
