2 more new surfers this past weekend!

We got 2 more new people out on the surfboard this past weekend. That makes 7 brand new wakesurfers for this year including myself! We are all addicted now and if the water looks at all rough we surf instead of wakeboard.

Here's a pic of Rick, my buddy's dad, who's 50 this year, surfing for the first time!

Congrats! That is awesome! Wakesurfing is SO addicting isn't it?

This last weekend I took a buddy of mine's parents out. My buddy has been surfing w/ me all last year and this year but his parents had never been out.

We got his dad up (6'3 probably 280+ on our 5'6" Hyperlite Broadcast) in about 5 tries (has only skied about 20 years ago) and by the end of the day he was shredding and riding w/ slack in the rope! He is HOOKED!

That's our 4th newbie this summer that is hooked!

I am with you. We save our Surfing for Sundays on the River now when there is less traffic. Surf'n Sundays

We got a few more newbies up this trip and 2 of the guys were able to throw the rope in and surf without it for 100+ yards. There are about 8 new surfers in our group now. We busted out the fat sacs and are putting 700 lbs on one side and getting the bodies on that side to put out a great wake.

What we like is it doesn't beat the hell out of you like boarding or skiing when you crash.

Timmy what settings are you using? We have been going 10.6 with the TAPS at 5 With about 5 people on the back corner of the boat.

We have been doing the same settings with 700 lbs of sacks and 3 bodies in the rear corner and then 2 more in bow area.

This is EXACTLY why it is so addicting. Beginning surfers don't have to worry about crashing and getting hurt. Beginning boarders always seem to faceplant at least once and that usually is enough to get them to not like it too much.

The worst I have had to this point is when I was coming down off of the face at the same time a large roller was coming into the wake. My nose of the board ended up between the roller and wave and my board be came a catapult. It launched me and I ended up landing on my back pretty hard. Now I am paying more attention to boats going by before I make a hard move back down the wake.

Right now we are running a 550 in the locker on the side that the rider is and then the other 550 in main area pushed against the side that the rider is with 3 people on that side as well. We were running 10.6 with taps at 6 and that got us the biggest wave but we found that if we went up to 11.2 with taps at 6 to 8 we get a slightly smaller wave but a much longer pocket, I can ride a good 10' to 12' from the platform with the higher speed.

If you add some up front it will make the pocket longer at the slower speed.....

We've tried with people and the sack in the walkway and we like the combo we got going right now the best. Eventually we will get a few more sacks so we can dial it in perfectly. Not sure how much longer the pocket will get, how far back are most people able to ride?

coach, try putting in as much ballast as possible and then sink the rear corner your riding with people, we have found that putting 30% of the weight in the bow really cleans up the wake. 11 mph and taps at 1-3 depending on total weight in rear. good luck, we have a pocket at least 15 foot long. im putting in the fly-high enzo surf sacs this week on top of my factory ballast which by the way, pretty disappointed.

I posted this in another thread already.. but I took a buddy from my work out today wakesurfing for the first time and he is hooked! He had never wakesurfed/wakeskated but is a pretty good wakeboarder and surfs a fair amount (whenever he gets to the coats since we are a little over 2 hours inland).

So he got up on his first try and was shredding pretty well for the first day. By the end of the sesh he tossed the rope in and rode for about 50 feet. He can't wait to come out w/ me again! He is hooked! That's number 5 this year!

I'm determined to get my dad on a wake surfboard this year.

We took one of my bro's co-worker's out with us Tuesday night who has been surfing for years and years in the ocean and he was AMAZING on the wakesurf! First pull up and he was carving the wave so hard that we were in awe! Then he crashed and decided he wanted to be pulled up like he was on a real surfboard, laid on the board and we pulled him and he pulled himself into the wave and jumped up on the board like it was no big deal. He was free riding in no time at all, now he just needs practice staying that way.
