This is the section I remember:

      (b) It is unlawful to operate a motorized vessel or have the
engine of a motorized vessel run idle while an individual is
occupying or holding onto the swim platform, swim deck, swim step, or
      swim ladder of the vessel.

Too many "swim" 's in there So if I call my swim deck a sun deck, I'm golden!

It's no wonder why CA has that largest amount of lawsuits.

I'm sure that's a violation of some environmental code out there.

Hey, those guys on the back weren't swimming and they're clearly not holding onto anything either

Dog, you'll be my inspiration as I'm receiving the citation

I've seen that language in at least two places:

                This is California's law:

                http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/di...0&file=680-685

Washington has the same basic provisions:

                http://www.leg.wa.gov/pub/billinfo/2...re/6364.PL.pdf

If I am not mistaken, OR and NV have most of the same verbage.

I don't see anything about sitting on the sun deck. It seems to be specifically targeted at teak surfing. Back whe I bought my boat, Tige sent me a letter because I guess people were starting to do it and it was causing a problem.

I think you're getting a bit carried away.

Dog - I'm sorry man - I was giving you a hard time. I think somewhere up above I indicated that I was mistaken - I THOUGHT that I had read it was the sun pad, but it is only, as you noted - the swim deck. But I do believe in response to CP3's question I think that several western states have adopted that wording, not just Cali.

Np, I think you're right about having people hang out all over the place. I've had several water patrol guys watch us intently to see if we're being safe. They usually leave me alone and give me a thumbs up when driving away.

This might get you pulled over, tho:

Yeah that's crazy...when we were in Ohio, those folks told me that riding on the sun pad would get you cited and I know that a deputy on our lake said that this section, in his opinion, required that you had to have rails, or be sitting inside the cockpit:

"Riding on the bow, gunwale, or transom of a vessel under way, propelled
by machinery, when such position is not protected by railing or other
reasonable deterrent to falling overboard; or riding in a position or
manner which is obviously dangerous. These provisions shall not apply
to a vessel’s crew in the act of anchoring, mooring or making fast to
a dock or another vessel, or in the necessary management of a sail."

So...I'd rather not spend a day explaining and we just don't allow it.

You need to just get you one of those large inflatable shamu ballast bags for the back of your swim platform

We sit on the sun pad and watch our wakeboarders all the time. I never thought anything wrong with it, but then again I never see any dnr where I boat

Dog...you keep forgetting this is California! I'm sure there is a law that restricts the use of animals or animals likenesses for ballasting purposes We're lucky to be able to use WATER as ballast - I'm sure there is legislation that protects the interests of water and other common elements

                                CP3,

We have the Fly High Pro X bags, the rears are the 750's part #W707
Under the bow seats are the Fly High Pro X side sacs, part # W703, it says about 260lbs. each when full, we get pretty close so probably about 250 in each of those.

We had a rival ballast system installed aftermarket. I switched out the rear bags, we used to have to V-drive bags at 400lbs. each.

Honestly the boat needs more weight in the front but there is no where to put it. Still trying to figure out what to do. I wish Tige's didn't love so much weight up front because you run out of room fast. I hate having a sac in the walkway but it will probably come down to that again.
