Nope, we had been going for a while. We had a lot of weight in the boat. The rub rail near the back was probably only 4" from the water. With 6 people on 1 side that was probably an extra 1000lbs. in people.

Also, for reference that kid is about 6'4". The wake is pretty big!!

You all think the wake is bad??

I am sure the picture doesn't do it justice as usual. Camera angle is probably not in the ideal location but pictures do NOT help that wake out at all. I think a better angle would have been in the starboard corner as low as you can get it. That way we can see the wake. The size looks really good behind him thou.

I agree that the camera angle doesn't do it justice. It definitely looks big but the face in front of him looks kinda flat. I think it might be the camera angle though. W/ the ballast you described and the people in the boat, I bet it is sick.

          Da,

As I am sure you have noticed, everyone here is an expert...

You probably should be careful interpreting most of the advice given because there is a substantial difference from port to starboard wakes, and how they respond to ballast. Some of the boats that have made suggestions are so different from yours, that their advice is worthless, IMHO.

In fact, I am getting a feeling that my 24V is going to behave differently than a 24Ve. For example, I hear over and over that some guys put the TAPS down some in their 24Ve's. If I put it down much, I find the wake shrinks and loses its face. It looks a little prettier in pics with TAPS down, but the face gets too rampy and I cannot surf it.

I also think that the speed is hard to guage..you have to go fast enough to get a clean wake, mine works best at 11.2 on my PP. I will start another thread about that, BTW. I am not sure it is accurate.
          Be excellent to one another.

Thanks Tall. I am looking at it as being a suggestion and not the solution to my problem. Being that "suggestion" is where people put their sac and putting them there to see what happens. Being the "solution" is what I will find on my boat by taking the suggestion of people and seeing if it works for me or some concoction there of. I've tried the same sacs in the same spaces twice now and have gotten better each time but it's not close to being the "perfect" surf wake. I am thinking about switching the large bag with the smaller bag but the larger bag would need to be on the seat or floor. Getting another 300# bag and putting it in the bow while reducing the number of people or moving them around like human ballasts are suppose to be.

What I am looking for as my every day ballast system right now is one 400 # sac in the lockers and a 800 custom bow sac. That will lower me into the water while providing me the opportunity to weight a specific side down. Now this is just a dream right now but I have no intentions on purchasing this ballast system until the first part of winter.

That's exactly what you should be doing. It's all about learning what affects the wake. Once you figure that out, making the adjustments under different conditions is a piece of cake. I learned alot from Surfdad's explanations on what he did and why he did it. Check out some of his early threads on weighting his 23v and you'll see what I mean.

Failing that, I know the product manager (can't remember his name at the moment) for the 22Ve at Tige surfs and we were able to get the prototype they brought to our reunion back in 2005 set up pretty nice with just people as ballast. Check out my gallery and you'll see what I mean.

I just checked that out and it looks very nice. I am hoping to talk with surfdad in two weeks when he is going to be at New Hogan's Lake on a Sunday. I'm camping there that weekend and plan to spend a little time with him asking questions and seeing what he has in regards to placement of his ballasts. No, not trying to copy, just taking mental notes.

There's no shame in copying...if it works, it works!

That's what I'm saying! Heck I'd love to copy Surfdad and have his surf wake!

If the copy works, it will work. But I have 6 inches larger boat than he does to start with. the 24Ve is 50 lbs (appx) lighter than the 23V.... Actually, I might be able to get away with the same setup and have the ability to add even more weight... Hummmmmm. I will have to check this one out. I thought at the beginning that I couldn't copy him but now I am second guessing that one.....

Might be a posting whore but I can analyze things that make sense to me.

Da, Sunday, 2 weeks ago, was my last trip out. Just the wife and I and it was the first time I was able to drop the rope.

                          Here's the set-up I had then;
                          Speed - 10.5
                          TAPS - 3-4
                          500# in the bow sac
700# surf sac in port locker/under seats
400# on port side seats (if this set-up works, this bag will go in the port console)

The trip before that I had a 400#er in the starboard locker and I could not catch the pocket. Moki suggested to dump that bag and only run weight on the surf side and it made the difference. Thanks Moki

Keep working at it, you will get it dialed in soon.

                            Thanks for the response.

The 700# was that two sacs or one? If two, how much in rear locker and then how much in ski locker?

Asking because I dont think there is a sac that holds 700# from what I understand.
