So we are a bunch of bigger guys surfing off the back of my Tige. We are ranging from 200-225lbs. Tried a few traditional entry level wake surf potato chips ranging from 4’6”-5’4”. And although we can surf those boards, we cannot let go of the rope for an extended time period. So we had some regular surfboards laying around that we started experimenting with. Sizes ranging from 5’8”-6’8”. Having a ton a fun playing around with those. Anyone else having the same issue and doing the same thing? Any other boards we should be trying that could work for bigger guys? What’s working for you? Appears that all the wake surf boards top out at 5’4” which by experience seemed small, but perhaps the one I tried were too entry level? The other issue is these bigger boards don’t fit the board racks. So that kinda sucks. But that can be solved.

It's likely you need to work on the boat before you can get into a normal sized surf board.
So is it safe to say that nobody else is using regular surfboards?

nm. saw you posted up your new ride.
r23 will make a solid surf wave. reach out to chpthril for replacement sacks. factory ballast won't do it.
we ride regular wakesurf boards most of the time but do have a longboard from soulcraft that we ride occasionally but it's really big so it doesn't see much time.Last edited by sandm; 06-03-2019, 03:12 PM.2012 22ve.. RIP 4/17

Get some big dudes in the boat for ballast as well. Sounds like you need more weight in the boat. Any of the bigger boards should work.
Has anyone dropped the rope surfing?
Also need to be in water 12'+ deep. Shallow water will not produce a good wave.
I got a doomswell El jefe. It will work with the big dudes.

Im 230 plus, 2nd year and started with a LF fish now on a 4'8" P5 Fireball and 4'8" Doomswell neo, learned in the past year the board isn't the issue it was my lack of understanding a wake surf wave and how to ride it. One day it just "clicked", if you have pics or vid the folks here are very good at giving tips and will accelerate that learning curve.
Pic is wife on the LF fish, she is 5'11", boat is a 22v @ 11.2.

These (Hyperlite Landlock or Inland Surfer Red Rocket) are not required as you are not near heavy enough for those tanks. I'm about 215lbs and I ride a 4'10" Soulcraft Blunt Nose Honu.
Really, there are 3 factors: Wave, Board, and Skill......and skill makes up for board and wave. I can ride my sons Phase 5 Scamp (45") behind my boat. I can't move around a lot but I can still ride it.
Biggest issue with people learning to surf is your moving too damn much. yank the rope, hard on the breaks, yank the rope, hard on the breaks.....repeat. Slow movements as everything is delayed. 1" at a time all forward, back, side to side in the hips and your but shouldn't be sticking out the back. Roll it forward...think finishing move (thrust).
Lastly: what's your speed? try slightly faster 11.2-11.4mph. More water moving underneath the board will help you stay up rather than sinking at 10.8....seriously, who still rides at these slow speeds!? lol.Last edited by BCRider; 06-03-2019, 04:43 PM.

BCRider, Thanks for the info. My family has a 2019 R21 we just bought and have been using the factory setting for surf which is 4/4 and 10.8. My daughter does fine with it but the rest of us can't drop the rope. I'm sure my low skill level matters but just wanted some tips to make it a little easier.

Thanks for the input guys. I added 500lbs of lead in the back, loaded all tanks 100% played around with the the tabs to 5/2 or 5/3 and now have a great wake. Bought a Doomswell Nubstep 5’2” that even my 235lb Buddy is riding. We are at the 11 mph mark, seems to be doing great with that setup. Will try increasing speed as we get more skilled.
