Topaz I think I based my current set up on your thread, think I read it a dozen times.
Mike - I think we are going to have to hold up a sign on the lake gonna be some surf friends "will supply beer for surf friends" also for wgt it's estimated, I can get a 800lb sumo just about full then I put a another on top of it half full, hatch d oesnt close. 750 sumo up front with a 350 in walk way..still testing bow wgt.
Intention is to find the best set up and then do a automatic install over the winter, you suggested on pm a enzo for listing, the sumos were left over from my supra DD I sold.

Yrs she had just gotten up, I grabbed that dram to show the wave.
A lot of threads suggest the "beginners boards" are not really that beginner friendly, was looking at a ringer xl blem, I'll have to hit up hmmmm I think his name was Nick at chaos again
Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated!
We absolutely love the boat...but did discover the rear starboard tower mounting bolts were broken, I thought the tower was shaking a bit excessively.
What a pita to get your arm up there to install new bolts and nuts!

Bingo! Decided to brave the weather and hit the campground/lake, sunk surf side up to the rail and we both found we coukd ride and carve a bit on this school bus of a board, we just have to do a bit more tweaking as we are getting a lot of "splash over" from the non surf side dirtying up the wave, all your tips appreciated and we are excited to surf again.

Yeah it sounds like you are on the right track. Just keep playing with it till you get it to your liking. If you really want to get after it let me know and I can give you more details. I also run a mudflap and have trimmed my swim platform as well. Have not had any problems with my tower bolts.

Thanks Topaz, we appreciate it. I see a new board in our best future!
Plus automating the ballast after boating season.
I think we are real close, when she's surfing the wave is clean most of the time, when I am it's getting wash from non surf side. Going to try a wee bit more why in the bow in the morning.

Yeah depending on your exact weight set up more bow weight can clean up the wave, especially for the goofy side. Maybe also try more surf side weight or less non surf side weight to clean it up. Nick from Chaos is great and he can get you set up better with a board. Jeff from soul craft can as well. I know them both and they are great guys to deal with.

Best surf set up I found in my 05 22v is a 500lb sack mid bow, dual 450 lb sacks on either side of the engine, 250 lb sack on the surfers side in the middle of boat and another 250 lb sack in the back storage compartment. Taps is between 1 and 3 (a bit of play for best results but usually a slalom or 1 setting on the port side of boat and 3 on driver side of boat) and set perfect pass to 10.3 - 10.5 depending on size of rider. I have had 300 lb friends surf both sides of my boat with only a driver and spotter.

I have not tried a wave shaper.

                    Any pics of your wave?

Would you mind doing a simple diagram of the wgt placement?

                    Thanks!

No, not really... now she's put the skim fins on and loves it, last weekend she pulled off a 360 but just couldn't keep in the wave (thank got I forgot to start the gopro) I can barely stay in the wave with some gentle carving for a few minutes before doing something stupid and falling out....

Not good... especially with her snide comments about always having to turn around and get me.. you should just stay on the rope.... UGGGG!

The wave looks legit. The best advice I got was about foot placement on the board. You need to start bringing your weight forward on board. Start by bringing your back foot forward about 3". If that helps, try inching your front foot forward on the board as well. Bias a touch towards your toes and get off your heels.

In the image above your girlfriend is leaning way too far back. You can tell as the nose of the board is coming up. That creates tremendous drag.

When you first start moving your weight forward you will start pearling the nose (running it under water). You will think this means you are too far forward. Typically this isn't true. You just need to learn to move your weight back before you pearl. It's a bit of a dance to find that oscillation front to back. Once you get it, everything just starts working.

The board is also going to help. A bigger board is always better for beginners. To this day I start people out on a 6'7" Ronix Koal Fish. I get people from 80lbs to 300lbs started on it. I don't think too big a board is a problem for beginners. Just look at how you start at ocean surfing.
