So fiancé and I saw some wake surfing videos this past winter and with the crossover that 50 yr old threshold (me not her) been looking for a low impact sport and we both decided to go for it. Sold my supra DD and picked up a 2004 22v limited, low hours and good price.
So we think the wave is pretty darn good (opinion only) and have been out 10+ plus times so far and love it and here is the "but" we just cannot "get it" She can ride with slack all day long but it is right off the back of the boat, I'm a little further back but seems really close and we have to move our feet positioning very far fwd on the board to feel the "push".
We now understand the shifting of your wgt to slow down and speed up but it seems we wash out so fast after dropping the rope or we are so close to the boat we bail.
The wave visually looks pretty darn good compared to most videos we watch.
1200 surfside rear locker, 300 under surfside seat.
600-900 in bow
typically ill put 200 to 400 in non surfside rear locker to clean up the wave.
Passengers (surf friendly) sit in surfside corner, not so surf friendly sit up front.
I am 230#
She is 180#
We are using a LF fish 5'6" (I know I know)
Speed on GPS is 11.2 to 11.7 and taps around 2-3.
Wave looks powerful and clean with a nice curl about 20 ft back.
We have read and watched so many threads and videos on technique and weighting boat, read many where people our size using same board can cruise ropeless on much smaller/weaker looking waves.
We play at Brookville lake in Indiana so we know depth is not an issue and 1 day I was too friendly with the refreshments and gave up driving duty and just surfed, next thing I knew I was back in the wave having a grand time ropeless (albeit for a minute at a time cause of getting cocky) but I "felt it", now I cannot for the life of me figure out what I did different.
Again, it seems we have to be right off the swim deck to get "push", I lean towards our technique is just not right she thinks it is the board cant be ridden ropeless, maybe it is too big.
Any tips/help directions would be greatly appreciated! We are going to brave the storms this weekend and try again so if there is any members from that area that want to burn our gas and drink some free beer we would love some company and instruction!
PS no board shops that I know of local we can rent and try other boards.
Thanks, Eric and Julie
