    Just bought a new surfboard

I just bought a new surfboard and get to try it out next week at Lake Powell. It is a Butter Board, has anyone tried one before? They are more of a traditional surfboard than a thin board. The shop that I bought it from says they are no longer being made and that they bought the last 200 hundred and are now down to 4. I went looking for the Hyperlite Broadcast, but everybody is out of them. They claim that I can bring it back if I am not thrilled with it. Since I am a newbie, I really don't know what to look for other than how easy it is to ride, how stable and how responsive. Any other things to look for?

    Here is the picture:

I've got a 5'6" Broadcast and love it. But good luck with that one.

I've ridden that board, it's quite nice. It's pretty fast and all sorts of stable, but it's not overly responsive. All in all, it's a great board to learn on. It's a solid choice. After I bought my Landlock, it was the only other board I was considering and the only surf style board I liked. In the end, I bought my wife a new wakeboard. Whatta ya gonna do?Butter was an offshoot of Double Up if I remember right. I bought the other board they produced, the Butter Skate. It's been real solid. I'd say keep that thing, it's a good board.

Ha Ha, welcome to retirement. Once you get hooked on surfing, you're gonna get fat and lazy. It'll be all you do for a few weeks and BAM, you strap on a wakeboard or, god forbid, a slalom ski and it hits you, you're not a kid anymore. You've become your father, sittin' on the couch in his underwear, drinkin' beer and eatin chips. Metiphorically speaking of coarse.

I think I'll just quote my wife from just the other day when she was asked the "When are you guys gonna have kids?" question from a friend of ours.

"As soon as you quit asking, we'll have one as soon as possible."

Well, I am back from our trip and really liked the board. It was very easy to get up on, got up just like a wakeboard. I was able to get the rope to get slack and stay slack for about 20 seconds, and then I would lose the momentum and had to pull on the rope. I think that a big problem is a lack of ballast. We only had one adult and several kids as ballast --not enough. But, we had a blast surfing with the rope. Myself, my son, and a friend all got up and totally loved it. Here is the only picture they took of me and blurred me in order to protect my secret identity
