Ive never seen a bottom wax. Most surf waxs are for the top of the board to add traction. Super sticky stuff that follows its way from the board, to your feet, to your vinyl. If any kind of product was used on the bottom I would think you would want something like a Teflon coating. Maybe someone else does wax bottoms though...
I think maybe he is talking about regular wax that we would use on the boat.
I usually hit the surf and wakeboards with some Babes Boatbright just to keep them looking good and offer some sun protection.
I think it makes the bottom surface a littler smoother as well.
Surfboards are not particularly designed to be waxed. Over the years a number of companies have brought out 'nano' techs that are purported to make a board faster.
If your board has a glossy finish, or a full paint coverage like most chinese manufactured boards, waxing the bottom like a car will clean off dirt and oxidation.
The same is true of a typical USA made board with a sanded finish. It the board is white with some color and a matte sand finish use some soft soap and a soft scour pad to clean it. Run the pad and soft lengthwise from nose to tail.
Magic eraser work also to take off marks, blemishes, etc.
So in summary you are not going to really gain speed from waxing the bottom of your board but you may return the showroom shine.
