I have been pulled over once, and again it wasn't because we were wakesurfing, it was because one of the passengers was not sitting properly. She was leaning on the sunning area above the motor box on a V-drive and the sheriff just wanted to remind us that is illegal and dangerous. Apparently he says that leaning out of the cockpit like that can run the risk of inhaling more CO (moreso than the person wakesurfing?), and that was a safety violation. He didn't ticket us, but we make sure everyone is sitting properly in the boat now.

They are just doing their job. I wish they would get after some of the people that are just plain ol' reckless out there... but that is a whole new topic.

The "station wagon" effect actually puts the highest concentration of CO in PPM's right at the trailing edge of the swimdeck. The CDC did a study and found that in some instances (no wind, slow speeds) the concentration of CO on certain boats was higher forward of the transom a few feet than at 10 feet behind it.
