New 4skim

Just back from the World Wakesurfing Championship's (keep your Tige's ) and got a chance to see the one and only prototype of the Inland Surfer 4skim, pictured below. The board has a layer of balsa just under the surface and the fin placement is significantly further forward than most skim boards available.

Also got to sneak a peek at Calibrated's new Lovett pro model. It's made with a PVC core - significantly lighter than divnylcell cored boards.

Ughhh huh huh, 4 skim. That's funny. What's the skinny on these two? Length, width, weight recomendations? I'm definately in the market for a new skim style.

So far as keeping my Tige, HELL YA! One 350 in the trunk and two people produced a 10' thigh high with a nice clean face. It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to build a nice surf wake with my boat.

The name fits in with their Phlegm and Loogey models - sheesh.

The board appeared to be the standard 4'6" in length and so will no doubt have a max rating in the 200 pounds ballpark. Realistically, anything about 160 is pushing it. The guys that ride these things in contests are MAYBE 140 soaking wet.

The wake at the worlds this year was exceptionally steep with a deep trough at the bottom. Pretty similar to when they ran it with Avy's a few years back, only not as tall. Last years wake was better in shape, size and length. They switched to the new 24 foot Enzo and they just haven't got the switchblade worked out. Numerous restarts during the contest because the blade wasn't in the correct position and the beginning of the men's semi-finals had to be restarted (after the contestant had ridden the full length of the course) because they hadn't put the ballast in. Plus they changed the rules on the falls in between the preliminaries and the semi-finals. It was almost funny, except that it distorted the results.

I've seen wakes TALLER than my Tige and I've seen wakes LONGER than my Tige, but I still have yet to see one that is better overall in shape, size, volume and length.

If I can ride a 4' Icon, a 4'6" is right up my alley. I'm seriously considering a P5 Prop. I really like the way the Icon rides, but it is just a bit too small for average days. I was trying to find some info for Calibrated but came up short. Do they have a web site?

It was definately odd. I love the wake check without ballast debacle. James made the semi's but didn't advance to the finals. It was his first year in the Men's Open division, so there was some intimidation. He also got confused with the rule changes.

I think if you look at the wakesurfing contest as a venue for Centurion to showcase their boats, rather than a legitimate contest it makes more sense...also takes away the need for the contest to be run with any semblence of order.

I can put you in touch with Mike at Calibrated, I don't think their Lovett Pro model will be avalable until after they introduce it at Surf Expo next month...and the last I heard they were reworking their website for the intro.
