I recently purchased a new 2015 Tige R20. Does anyone have advice on ballast/surf settings? I have the factory ballast system. Also, anyone have advice on upgrading the port ballast system?
Thanks,
Buckeye71
Congrats on the new purchase. When I bought my 2015 I replaced the rear bags with 770lbs bags from wakemakers.com before taking it out for the first time. So I'm not sure the setup with The rear stock bags. Guessing it would be close to the same, with a smaller wave? With the larger rear bags I ran 400 in front (both bags filled) and 1020 in rear (surf side only filled 100%) with taps at around 4 and speed at 10.2. This should be a good starting point.
We have a 2013 R20. Nothing special. Bow ballast full, aft port full, Taps at 4, 10.4 MPH and we surf the lake all day long. Gotta find the sweet spot.
Does your boat have the vx? If so it requires more weight than what comes stock if you want a good surfable wave. We have the vx on ours and have added 400 lbs more on the surf side, taps at 4 or 5 and about 10.2 to 10.6 mph depending if we are wanting more height or length in the pocket.
It has the VX extension. Do you remember where you got your extra bag? I saw one 375lb bag at wakesetters.com that would fit in front of the existing port ballast and extend under the port side seats.

P.S. Thanks to everyone who responded!
If you can afford to upgrade your rear bags to the W004's (770 lbs) or the W005's (930 lbs) then definitely do it. The W004's will allow you to still have your side storage on the port side where the W005 will take up the whole compartment when full. The R20 puts out a killer wave with ether of these bags. It's possible to get the wave with just filling an additional bag but it gets old after awhile and you will love a bigger integrated bag. They are available from wakemakers.com or from Mikes Liquid Audio, who is a member of this forum.
Here's some examples for you of the W004 wave and the W005 wave.
I agree with upgrading to the w005.. that's my plan this summer, as of now I just have 2 small sumo sacs that I fill up and move to one side or the other.. they are the cheaper version of the fat brick, but longer tube shape, and are a little heavier. They are small enough to fit in front of the stock bags under the side storage seats. Also not so heavy that you can't easily move them when full
