Separately I have been not terribly pleased with the wave I get with the gate low (below) the ledge/step on the side of the boat. It tends to roll my wave over and I couldn't get the taps to clean it up at any setting. So I started moving it around on the hull and found that if put it up just above the step/ledge (not moving the fat is half in the water or right at the waterline) I can still get it to stay there and it makes a much bigger/longer and better push wave and the taps were effective at adjusting it like I'm used to with listing the boat. The problem is no matter how I deflect the gate the water comes spraying up and some spray ends up in my rear accessory compartment. It's not a ton but it does happen. So I agree just keep playing position and you'll soon find a spot that works great for your boat.

I am glad I wasn't the only one that didn't think too much of the suckgate. I was thinking this morning about trying it one more time but moving it above the ledge. Based on your feedback I will give it one more shot. What weight and where are placing it?

I only had 4 people in the boat 1/3 tank of gas 450 lb in each locker no other weight. I think with it high the less the swim platform messes up the wake. The problem is the shape of the boat up there it's a bit more difficult to the suction cups to work. I also think the gate works really well for boats other than tige's that don't have such good wake listed. A buddy of mine couldn't get a good wake with any amount of ballast in his Malibu 21LSV but with the gat it wave is great.

I'm up at Donner lake all week so I will play some more with people weight and take more photos for you all. I think I need much more ballast thinking 750 a side and 450 to 600 up front.

I was at our other local soup bowl yesterday, Boca, just on the other side of Truckee. Be careful out there. It's always a mad house on the 4th. Like any lake I guess but the size, shape, and amount of traffic there is brutal. Straight Campbell's Chunky.

I know you too. I grew up out side of Reno and on Donner lake in the summer it's always been like this on the 4th so I knew what I got into, same for Boca too. I just live down the hill now after a short stint on the east coast (12 years) where my beloved Tige' came from

The one I made with an aluminum handle on demand here is a photo of the setup with the old plastic HOD that didn't stay connected. Also I have since moved the handle up to just above the ledge about half in the water line. I will get a photo and video of the wave tomorrow morning with this setup.

So I messed around with settings a bunch this morning. The amount of boats on this small lake were getting to near dangerous levels and the wakes from them were so huge and so many of them it was almost hard to surf. That all said I found something that worked real well and created a decent wake especially for my set up. Here is wave at 11.6 mph, taps at 8, 450lb in each locker and 3 medium sized people. The suck gate was just above the ledge as far back as I could get it (half on the water line as shown below) and still get it to stick as the boat curve around the back. I have angled it as much as possible but still get some splash when hitting boat wake up on to my rear compartment and locker vinyl

well I just made a suc gate and tried it over the weekend, I bought the handle from princess auto, it has a little pivot to it in the middle so I thought it would form to hull pretty good, first one was 12" x 12" at about 10 deg, it was a no go, it fell off, so I cut it too 8 x 10" and voila it stayed on entire time, I still ran listed mikes custom sac on port and all factory ballast full, gate was on starboard side as low as I could put it and angled a little down. It did make wake longer and wave was clean and boat wasn't listed as much as normal but the wave def lacked what these boats make sac'd out and listed. Normally I have all factory full except starboard hard tank so I run, 400 upfront, 250 hard tank port, mikes custom sac 1200-1250 and then a 400 on the rear port seat. This is best wave I feel these boats can make 11- 12 mph and taps 3-5 Next time out I will try it for starboard side but as of now the listing still rules hands down. Just my opinion and findings.

I saw the same handle from Princess Auto here in Calgary but hadn't spent much time thinking on how to attach the handles to the board. Would you mind to post a photo or two to see your design. THe princess auto handle is significantly different than what was posted here so it would be interesting to see how you cobbled it together.

The quest for the perfect wave is driving me insane! Here's the rub. I have a 2014 Z1 with VX. The wave has always been a bit short and steep (small pocket). I have 1600lbs sacs in each corner. 200lbs bags up front (400lbs total). Typical ride, rear surf side full, fronts full, speed 11.2. If I add any weight to the non-surf side, the wave washes out. regardless of Taps (upgraded Plate)....which is usually at 7-8.

Last weekend, I put a large enzo bag up front and it doubled the length of the wave....lost some push, but that's okay. I did add some ballast to the non-surf side as well. Simply adding speed in any scenario always results in washout.

Now the issue. I was going to upgrade the ballast up front (basically double weight). Then I saw this thread. Understanding how Delta (Or DYI) works, perhaps the ballast upgrade is unnecessary. Maybe jumping to Delta would eliminate the need for more ballast and actually eliminate the major tilt thing I have going on. Any thoughts?

Even with the Delta (or the homemade version lovingly called the sucgate) you will need extra bow weight. As you have found, adding bow weight lengthens the wave with some loss of push. Play with the weights to find the best combination of length and push for your hull. We use the delta on our 24ve with 2600 lbs in the rear and 600 to 1000 lbs up front. I'm 200 lbs and run at 12.2 (not gps checked) with taps at 4. When we don't have passengers we add an additional 400 lbs to the surf side to give the boat a slight list and more push. Definitely add more bow weight. This combination for our hull puts out a very nice wave. I love the mostly level boat and there is plenty of push throughout the long wave.
