Has anyone got it to stick without clay baring the area? Kind of stinks to spend all the time and effort in a good wax/buff job just to remove the wax to get it to stick? My plastic handle version popped off but if the metal is the way to go I'll swap it out, just hate to remove my wax.

I'm gonna try the metal one tonight without clay baring the area. Ill let you know.

I didn't clay bar mine, metal handle me worked. Just have to make sure you get good grip on flat surface of boat.

I don't have good pics yet, after following these threads ours is working, it's a hybrid -- large cutting board swept back like the ronix, using the aluminum suction cup HOD.

I tested several versions and this worked the best. I actually lost version 1.0 which was shaped like the Mission when the cups let go and it snapped the leash.

Version 2.0 -- much stronger leash and clip. It did not release once in several hours of surfing.

The trick I've learned is to 'pump' the suction handle a couple of times if it is underwater. This gets any air between the pad and the inside of the suction cup out, which would actually be pushing against your suction. Then, while pressing the handle hard against the boat, it becomes really tough to close the suction, meaning it has a really strong seal. No issues at all when doing this.

Yeah sure. These are full sized templates. There are a couple of errors. The radius where the handle come thru need to be more squared off. I think a 0.125" radius is better basically square. You will need a 11X17 paper and printer to print out the bottom. I was able to get the plate to fit on a 8.5X11" paper.

            PLATE.pdf

I don't have templates for the gussets as those are easy. I used 3.5X4.5 Base by height. Height is angled back 10 deg. I never have seen the actual device in person I just used the handle on demand and size from that. The plate was sized after reading all your guys stuff. BTW i used 1/2" thick base and plate and 3/4" thick gussets.

My aluminum handle is on the way.

Sounds like I need to order the metal handle and give it another try

I have the harbor freight one and have yet to have it come loose. I push and make sure the lever pushes down hard. Then give it a couple yanks to make sure it's tight

acropilotbret, Thanks man! I'm gonna order my metal suction cups and seaboard tonight.

hcooperrn, Can you get some pics up? I like the idea of a more laid back angle like the ronnix because it should stay on easier.

And here is what happened to my DIY suction cup.

So based on those dimensions the drawings I posted are 7.43 and 10.50 tall. Looks like it could shrink an 1.5 inches or so. No sure how critical that dimension is.

Ok so I tried mine again with the metal handle suction cups. I did not clay bar the area and it worked flawlessly. Never came off one time. I am amazed at the results. I even listed my boat tonight just to compare and I was getting the same wave with a third of the weight I typically need listed.

Having never run evenly weighted I had to really dial back how much I filled the 1100lb sacs in the rear lockers. Discovered if I filled up everything that I can't get on plane or go over 10mph. Think I may need to change my prop.

So in this video clip I have the following set up. https://youtu.be/rvKwE6QxjQk

                          2007 Tige RZ2
                          400 lbs bow walk way
300lbs in each rear locker (this is a guess based on how full the bags were)
                          2 people in the boat
                          11.2 mph
                          Taps set at 3

This may not affect everyone or anyone but me for that matter but I wanted to point this out. Last night I had about 4 inches of water in my engine compartment. (Guess I need to add an auto bilge). Looked everywhere trying to diagnose where it came from. I shrugged it off thinking it might have been the wave of water that Suck Gate sent over my sun deck when we were going 16MPH. However this was far too much water for that to be the case. This morning something didn't seen right so I went out to take a look. I was hoping that I didn't puncture a bag or have a hose fitting or thru hill that was leaking. Carpets were dry, bags have no damage, thru hulls were still under water and not leaking out the bottom.

Finally discovered that one of the transom storage compartments had evidence of water in one of them and a pretty pronounced water stain trail from the compartments drain in the engine compartment. Seems that Suck Gate was dumping water over the back corner on top of the transom storage compartments which was draining into my engine compartment. As a solution I may just plug the drain and let the compartment fill up.

So if you have these compartments in your boat you may want to position Suck Gate deep enough so the water doesn't come over the edge or plug the compartment drains. Different hull designs may dictate how far under water you can position the gate. Adding weight would alleviate this by pushing Suck Gate farther under water.

Here is the best pic I have of Suck Gate throwing water over the back corner.
