Get rid of the bow weight, I maybe run 200# up there if there's lots of people in the boat. Otherwise it stays empty.

Here's a few more pics of mine. I am running 800lbs front, 1300lbs surf side, and 3 adults. Suck gate @ 15 deg with suction cups towards rear of boat. I have a wake9 TAPS plate set to 8. 2013 Z1 with Vx and 2nd Gen brackets.
Note that this is exactly how I would weight it for listing. However when listing I would still need some extra weight (ie people) in the surf corner.
Couple observations:
- the suck gate does not work when evenly weighted. The bow is just too high. I am shocked others are advocating for LESS bow weight.
- This wave is as good as any wave I've ever surfed. It has a longer pocket for me (I'm the big guy at 275lbs). I could surf all day without losing the wave. I would normally need another 4 adults on the surf side to get this wave.
- my speedo was erratic so I can't be sure on speed. I think we were around 11 mph
- gas usage was hard to discern but the boat did not occur to be working overly hard.
- one of my suction cups came apart and went into the lake. Amazingly one cup was plenty to keep it attached. It was even hard to remove.
With what I've learned I am prepared to either buy a Mission gate or built a rust proof version of this. It isn't always needed but it is a nice piece to have for a small crew.

I played with suckgate again yesterday on my 22ve, the starboard side wave pretty good but I am more concerned with my port side for me, I ran full mla sac, all factory full 400 front, 250x2 in rear and about 4-500 offside weight. made a new suckgate that is more like surfgate, sticks to side of boat but gate is at platform like surfgate is. My conclusion- wave does not have the same lip as listed, it has a distinct line in wave 2/3 way up. What is better is that the wave is harder for sure, can go slower and have a harder wave, the other thing I noticed was how far out into the flats I could go. I had never been so wide of the boat, that was a def. bonus. If I could get rid of line in wave might be onto something. At work right now, will post pics of new gate later for anyone who wants to see. It also changed the wave closer to the boat. I forgot to try with no bow weight as I had another family with me and everyone just wanted to go.

I'm very late to the party, but here's my 2 cents. I just odered a Swell Wake to try. I had to trim it so it would fit below the step. Nothing can be attached above the step, as the hull on my 2012 RZR curves above the step, so the suction cups cannot be attached. But presumably, below the step and towards the rear is the best place anyway.
So we tried it. Now keep in mind that surfing is a challange on my lake anyway, since there is just one 1/2 mile channel with 10+ feet of depth. Anywhere else on the lake requires the rope. So I tried the recommended even balkast first. Wake was cleaner and longer, but no push. Tried listing ballast next, still no push. Took it off and had push. We tried every speed from 9.8 to 13.0, with every TAPS setting, none produced a surfable wave with the gate attached. As soon as we removed it, 10.6 and TAPS 4 worked like it always does.
My take. Listing is the best and the more ballast the better. The gate may be helpful if I had a lot more ballast or deeper water, but in my situation, no. I have the built in lockers and 600 lbs add on bags on each side. I have the horseshoe bag in front, wish I had the seperate ones so I could list more. Also we rarely have extra crew for ballast.
Adam at Swell Wake was great, he took it back trimmed. I don't think angles or position would have changed anything or helped. My attraction was the idea of not having to swap balkast for goofy riders, but this isn't going to happen.2012 RZR

2002 Tige 21V riders edition
Shaved swim step
400lbs each rear locker
200lbs lead bags under mid boat
500lbs bow bag under the seats
Surf exhaust changed the game and the wave a bit
Suc gate location all the way in the rear and at the very lowest flat area.
Taps at 4
11.6-14mph but taps need to go to 6 at 14mph to keep the nose up
Angle of gate at 65°
3500w of strerio to keep the surfer pumped
I run with everyone in the rear seating accept i like to put one fatty in the front on riders side.
I could put 1400 each rear locker with my sacs but I dont have the power to push the boat that weighted with the gate on. Looking to go with a new prop to help with that.
The angle adjustment of the gate is key though. I have been testing this thing on 8 different boats now and each one is different on the sweet spot. Location and angle.
I have tested against the Delta and am not impressed with it at all. The gas consumption is outragous(yes i know I am boating so fuel goes quick) and the spray is crazy due to the set angle of 88°.
Not trying to bash on delta at all just showing you can make a way better product in your garage and get just as good or better results. It looks like Delta will have one more in stock to who ever gets it first good luck and pad the back of your boat. Mine got returned today.Originally posted by JohnnieMo View PostSo I tested my suck gate today. The aluminum handle was the bomb. However my results were mixed. With zero ballast it made a nice wave. When I filled all ballast (800 front and 2600 rear) the boat was very nose high. The wave was very washed out.
I tried a variety of speeds and moving people to the front but it never cleaned up. I started taking weight out and I pretty much drained the off side before it cleaned up. But really that is how I ran it before the gate also.
Thoughts? How do you weight your boat with a gate! What about taps?
