Not at all trying to second guess you but one thing I will say, I was just over on wake makers page looking at the Ronix wakesurf shaper.. While your bottom angle appears to be 90 degrees, theirs definatly looks to be greater than 90.. I don't know how much of an effect this could have, but it's something to note in case you don't get the exact results you want and you want to experiment

I figure suction cups would work as well. My only concern would be they would slide down the side of the boat.

Good point. If that becomes an issue it'll be time to move on to some dual lock.

Yes, you are right about the angle. That's basically an oversite on my part. Considering my dementions are off all around I just want to see if it will make any difference. If it does I may do some tweeking. If not I will move on to new ideas.

Really interested to hear about your results. The ability to move fore and aft will prove very interesting. My research has lead me to believe there is an angle at which the delayed convergence device just works, beyond that it will just impact steering. Size of the device is also a factor that compounds the angle. So many possibilities. Ive not updated this thread all the way but here is where I left off with mine:

We need somebody to buy the Ronix piece and post up all the angles and dimensions.. Anybody know if this has happened on other forums yet? Maybe somebody has a buddy whose a dealer and will let them snag some measurements

I would bet that the shape and angles on the device are not very scientific....... Just whip something up and I bet it'll work.

I was just thinking that surely for a major company like Ronix to produce and sell it, they probably put some time into design and testing to get the angles and length that give you the most wave improvement with the least steering issues...

But how do you insure that translates to a different hull? Chit, print that screen grab off and lay a protractor on it. Looks to be about 100*

Per their page:

The engineers and riders at Ronix have developed this wakesurf device to revolutionize the performance of your boat. This composite wedge easily mounts slightly below the water line on the outside of the boat near the stern. Place it on either the starboard or port side of your boat's hull to get a massive surf wave on the opposite side. Extensive testing on direct drives, v-drives, and jet boats all shows any boat consistently produces an amazing wakesurf wave when coupled with this device and wakeboard ballast. This is a game changer, and will be all over the water next summer.

Mounting

Because every hull shape is different the process will be slightly different on every boat. Some are mostly flat and don’t require a shim, others have a small step in the hull and require a 1” shim while other boats have a more pronounced step and need the included 2” shim. Be sure to measure the furthest back/lowest corner of your hull to gauge what set up you need. The block must be at least 80% below the waterline when mounted. If the block is above that line increase the amount of ballast in the stern of the boat.

Two adhesive backed high strength velcro strips will be installed onto the hull creating a landing strip for the Wakesurf Shaper. Skeptics believe this will not be strong enough to keep the block connected but they are wrong. As water travels over the surface, it will push the face of the block against the hull for maximum hold.

Sounds like it works on about any hull as long as you get it deep enough in the water

^^^^^Keep in mind the wording you quoted is off of their site...the company trying to market and SELL the product. I have never seen a company market their product as crap or a failure. Real world reviews should pop up fairly soon.

I made my own surf gate. 20 min of design time, fabbed it up and mounted. Guess what? Worked great. My guess is + or - 10 degrees on all angles works the same. Don't give Ronix too much credit LOL, this is not rocket science. As Chp points out--it is universal. Therefore, not too tight of a design. Aside from all that? If you want to pay them, get it. It will work. Or make one similar. It will also work.

I would never pay them 6 bills for this thing.. I was just thinkin that if they've got it fine tuned down good enough that they can convince people to pay for it... Then maybe it's a design worth copying. That is all.. I have no skin in the game and am not trying to convince anybody to buy their product. I would likely make my own also, just trying to save myself the experiment phase.. Mostly every thread I've read on people building these things, they've had to change it up a few times to get it right.. Maybe this ones right and knowing its dimensions would save time

You could get as scientific as you wanted. You could spend hundred of hours testing different angles, heights and lengths of the base and forward side to achieve the best wave. One person moves and you are back to square one. Thats the down side of a static device in a variable environment. Now, take that design that was perfect on one boat and slap it on another. it may work, may work well even, but start from scratch and I bet you find the different hull likes different angles and dimensions. I bet more time was pent on attachment then wave R&D.

Aftermarket Surf Gate

Ronix Wake Shaper Dimensions 20 x 15 x 10 in. I can see the face of the shaper and the angle the water is passing over being important. But that angle on the back of it wouldn't do anything in my opinion. At 90 degrees it would be simpler to reproduce and I'm sure work the just the same.

Don't give Ronix too much credit. I spoke with the inventor just before he sold the design to Ronix. He is a pretty sharp boat tech at a popular dealership in Dallas.

Wake Shaper design was born of trial and error. Beyond the design of the wedge attachment to the boat with industrial Velcro coupled with spacers is the key making changing sides easy when the boat is stopped. I've seen video of multiple applications on various boats, surprisingly result is pretty consistent.

Service leader told me to load up the ballast evenly, stick it on and take a ride. No more listing and shifting people. One of the accessory department leaders told me it was a big laugh at first until they took a ride... Ronix got wind and dropped some cash!
