I disagree the first step is replacing the swim deck. I would rather see more weight. Then a flap.

Our 2009 RZ2 was the first model year the reduced size of the platform for surfing. It was then further reduced in 2010 and probably reduced in later years. Our 2009 platform does not cause significant issues with the flap in place. And I am quite happy with our rub-rail 2009 RZ2 flap wave.

Current set up is on a 2014 RZ2. Surf ballast with 1100 lb plug an play bags on each side. So will fill the surf side 100% and a about 30% on the non surfside rear. Front we are having issues getting it to fill, it just empties when try to fill. So it'll be going back to the dealer again. Is this wave weak? New to all this so any info would be greatly appreciated.

It says you have a 2014, do you have the Convex Vx?

Your wave is not "weak". But you can def tweak it. RZ2 really needs bow weight. Stick a person up there. Opinions vary re how sensitive the RZ2 is to off-side bow weight. I think it matters so if you have a choice, keep bow weight on the wave side (I run 100/30 with split bags). Bow weight will clean up the wave and give you a deeper pocket (i.e., how far you can surf back).

Unless your rub rail is touching the water while under way, drain all water from the rear off-side sack. (If possible, put heaviest passenger in rear corner and keep all other passengers on wave side). Some use a 150 lb water brick strapped to the platform (but that is a pia). If your water patrol is not strict, a person sitting on the surf side rear bench with feet on platform is awesome (be aware of safety issues of course). Getting weight off the non-surf side will provide a fantastic improvement to height of the wave.

Speed. 10.5 is about the lowest you want to go on the RZ2. But this is relatively slow and will shorten your pocket. If you have fast boards and/or good riders, you should speed up. 11.2 - 11.5 is good. 12 or a little higher is great. But only with the rub rail touching water. Less weight and you will have to back off speed (but not below 10.5).

If you do not have a VX, then look up the various surf flap threads on TO and install one. Cheap and easy. Big difference.

I do not get the surface of a surf flap or changing the platform. I always get a solid surf wake out of the rz2 regardless of the year. Neighbour has a 2009 RZ2, 1100 lbs surf side, 300 lbs non surf side, 400 lbs sac infront of the 1100 lb sac and about 600 lbs up front. Wake is clean, large and tons of fun.

We have a 2014 RZ2 and have had good success on the regular side with this set up. No weight up front (people or ballast). We have 1,150 lb. sac that extends under the seat. We then fill a 350 lb sumo sac which sits under the seat in front of 1,100 lb sac and also put another 350 lb sumo sac on the seat in the corner. That leaves 3 people in the boat. I then let someone start surfing and start filling the opposite rear sac until the face of the wave rolls over and cleans up. It can be 25-50% depending on the driver weight. This set up puts the rub rail pretty close to the water. We run at 9.8-10.2 mph. Some might think it's a bit slow but, I've had a very accomplished surfer behind the boat and he said it felt like he was surfing at a speed close to what he is used to which is around 10.8-11. I haven't checked the speed to see if it is accurate or not. Hope this helps.

Being an RZ2, have you tried no ballast on the off side? I would try that after you get the bow plumbing taken care of.

That double lip in the pic on the right is a tell tell sign that you don't have enough on the surfside. When you're surfing trace that double lip back to the hull and you will see that it is created from the edge of the hull. The more you lean the boat the further up the wave the double lip will travel. You also need to get the front ballast bags fixed. What setup do you have in the bow? Is it the dual 400 or the U-shaped 400lb sac? You need the weight upfront, however you don't need 800Lbs, the 400 surf side is plenty of weight for the front.

Here is my setup below that produces this wave. In the video I have a 400lbs sac on the seat, however after all these videos I ran without the 400 sac on the seat and got the same wave.

                      Speed 10.6-11.8
                      Taps 5
                      front 400 surfside
                      rear 250 factory hard tank
rear 1450 enzo that goes up under the seat.
This works with one driver or 4 extra people. When have extra people position them equally in the boat. I see you're on Lake Austin, let me know if you want help dialing in the wave and I'll be more than happy to help out. The wave looks nice, just needs a minor tweak and it should be all good.

Do not have a VX. Surfed last night with just me surfing and only a driver in the boat. Felt like even though we fulled only the surf side all the way we were still sitting very high and the wave was pretty small. Best pic I have...

Exactly what rear surf sac do you have? And as many have noted, get the bow plumbing worked out before judging too much.

I am guessing massive wall from extra rear weight (which accounts for perception of speed) and shortened pocket from no bow weight and low speed.

I would also guess you have TAPS on 1-2 or else the tall wall no pocket would be unruly.
