    What is?

All right...What's wake surfing? I wakeboard and we ski, but this is a new one for me.

Could someone take the time to explain including what equipment is needed to wake surf.

    TIA, Paul

It's really fun! One thing they don't tell you about is that you don't want to use a regular wakeboard rope...that's dangerous (the handle has a tendency to wrap itself around appendages). I'll post some pics of one I made out of a wakeboard rope, but you may want to consider getting a wakesurf rope.

Well you know, that's exactly what i would have done!

I would like to see how the wakeboard surf's behind the boat? I just got the boat 05 20ci last Sunday, so have not taken it out yet.

I would like to second Dog's advice to not use a wakeboard rope.

Last year I had an experience where I was dragged underwater by a wakeboard rope while wakesurfing. It was extremely scary. I had no injuries, but I won't be doing that again.

              Flyboy,
We surfed behind our 20i last week at powell. We had 4 people in the back corner of the boat for weight (no other ballast) and a driver.

We didn't have a regular surf board, so we took the bindings off of a wakeboard and it worked! Only one guy had surfed before, but the other 3 of us that tried were able to get up and surf. I think I am going to buy a surf board now! It was sooooo fun!

I wonder if the other brands of 20' inboards could throw a surfable wake with 4 passengers and no ballast? Then with only a rope change and moving the TAPS, have an excellent slalom wake.

Not likely. I'm always impressed with how nice the surf wake on my boat is after riding someone else's wake. Most recently an '05 23' Malibu V-drive with the wedge, 4 tank ballst system and 5 people. I could barely stay with the the boat at 10mph. I jumped back over to mine with just a sack in the front and one it the back and BOOM, fat daddy @ 15mph all the way over to the slalom coarse where I can drain 'em and take a few passes at six balls.

NICKYPOO brings up an interesting point, what is everyone's magic (speed) number when it comes to surfing?

http://www.howtowakesurf.com advocates speeds around 10 MPH (give or take .2 MPH), NICKYPOO seems to like 15 MPH on his boat. I've found that ballast configuration, speed and TAPS setting make a difference and we usually do around 9.8 MPH.

I should clarify that I do not have PP. Nor have I calibrated my speedos in a while. However, when surfing behind other people's boats it always seems sooooo slooooow and there PPs are usually right around 10-11mph. Of coarse none of those others are Tiges either.

I had to get PP just so my wife would drive the boat...

It cost me about $300 (labor only) to have my dealer install it. BTW, if you get it thru the dealer, it will say Tige on it, so it looks like it came with the boat.
