I've been surfing my 22i for years now and never had a problem but, I'm going to install this on it over the winter. Several Tige guys have it and it works great from what they have said. You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I'm a beginner and just got a 22V and wanted to know if the fresh air exhaust was really needed to wakesurf. What is the best surfboard?Everything happens for a reason

Wake surfing/ CO poisoning
CP3,
You probably know as much as me, im also a beginner in wake surfing, (hard core skiier) (new to surfing and boarding)so im learning too.
I did check out the web site www.freshairexhaust.com, not sure if its necessary, but I always air on the safe side, would hate to have something happen to the kids or someone else. I will probably get one this winter just to be safe, and to be ready for the spring season.
If you check out that site you can actually rent a CO monitor and see how much CO your boat puts out, there easy to use/read, I think its $35 to rent one from them, and if you buy the exhaust kit, they apply the $35 bucks to the purchase, we use them in the Fire Service so im just going to borrow one from work and see how much CO comes off my boat.
Check out that site, good info there, good luck L
P.S. Dont have any clue on a good surf board, if you find one let me know, I need to get a beginner one for next year also...Last edited by firemangr82b1; 11-23-2005, 02:22 AM.

I't's great to see some skiers starting to get into some new stuff. I was raised on my firestick (ski) so I know where you guys are at with all this stuff. The Freshair is not a necessity, just a lot safer. I surfed for years without it and aint dead yet.
Now, so far as the best board, no such thing. What works for YOU is the best. Same as anything. If your new, the Trickboardz probably aren't the best place to start. Demo every board you can before puchasing. They all feel and ride different. I've tried every "pop out" on the market just because those are generally the only ones they will let you demo. The guys like Trickboardz, Phase 5, Shred Stix, ect. are hand made so they're just too.......well, they are hand made. A good place to start is the Hyperlite 5'6" Broadcast. At one time it was called the Landlock but, that name has been applied to the really big board now a days. The 5'6" is a great ride (still my favorite). It will ride on small wakes and it will still rip the big stuff. I ride mine with a set of Hyperlite 1.1 A-Wings instead of the 6" monster surf style fins. It really freed it up in the turns and gave me a ton more straightline speed. I did purchase a Trickboardz Surf Skate and I don't mind tellin' ya it is tough compared to my Landlock. You really need a lot of wake just to keep up with the boat. However, if you so much as think about spinning, it spins. Definately for the advanced rider.
Keep us informed on what you guys come up with on boards and ballast and welcome to retirement. Wakesurfing that is.You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I posted this in the other thread but did get any suggestions so Ill ask it here.
How much ballast is too much for a 22V? Do you get in trouble if you exceed the capacity plate? What is the right speed or do you watch the wake. Just some beginer Qs.Everything happens for a reason

CP3,
your 22V was rated in waterski magazine boat test issue as a hardcore wakeboard boat with some serious wakes and great for wake surfing, (check out the review www.waterskimag.com) I dont think you'll need much if any ballast for a great wake for surfing, especially if your just beginning, I have the direct drive 22IR and have no ballast (just the TAPS system) and get some awesome wakes from that, until I get real good, I wont be adding any ballast for awhile, I wouldnt recommend exceeding the ballast capacity plate if I were you, if you go to www.howtowakesurf.com, it will explain ballast there, theres a bunch of chapters on wakesurfing, boards and ballast etc., also, the right speed for surfing is looking at your wake and adjusting your speed just until the top of the wake begins to crest, it will look whitish and start to curl over, just like you see when people surf.....
P.S. Still looking for a beginner board, will let you know if I find a good one, L

Here's the thread on Fresh Air Exhaust. I posted a picture of the system after Larry Mann installed it for me.Cursed by a fortune cookie: "Your principles mean more to you than any money or success."
