We got a chance to take the skimmer out today. Not bad for a first effort, I think I'll tweak it some, but it's good overall and the sandwich construction worked!

I only rode Bics because of a local dealer gave me wholesale cost and usuallly on a year end special deal. When I team rode they were very competitive with all others. Not a sandwitch construction. However they did put out custom boards for a while and they were nice. The Mistral was the high end board at the time for production boards. I then went to Westwinds, Rush, Hypertech and a few other custom made boards.

In that time the sandwitch design was only used in production type boards untill it got more understood. Love to see someone using this technology for wakesurf boards. I do not know what there is out there now. Have not stayed up on it that much. I use to be a purest on sailing and no motorboat, but then I got old and decided a throttle in my hand was a whole lot more fun.

We do! We've borrowed heavily on the sandwich techniques from sailboard construction. It was a 1 pound EPS core, wrapped with a 3mm 5 pound density cross-linked PVC skin. Very stiff, responsive and light. Really love how the concept translated to wakesurf boards.

BTW, thanks for the kind words and I hope you get out behind the boat soon!

$11 grand! That's some pocket change. It's a jet, right? Trying to figure out the propulsion syetm. A net weight of 30 pounds seems light all things considered.

I knew you would already be all over it! Your brain is now trying to figure out the materials they used, the propulsion system, fins, etc.

Back in the 80's I had the original SurfJet. It was 8.5ft. long with a 250cc. engine on it. It was fun for the kids but was underpowered for what I did. I had a "real" Jetski so it was not as fun. It moved along at about 35mph in a straight line but was slow in a tight turn. Light weight kids could have a good time on it though.

Ok, first off, anything with "extreme" in the name is gay. Good god, when is is that stupid word going to go away. It was completely played out by the time the '80s were over. How is it still in use it still in use in the name of anything. They might as well decorate it with teal and fucia paint splatters.

Second what is the point of this thing? Surfjets have been around for decades and I'll admit that when I was a kid, they kinda looked like fun but, watching the video of this new one is almost too much. How boring is that thing going to be after the first half hour. "Yep, went out and made some turns and few circles. What now?"

Third, $11k! You are trippin! I can appreciate that fact that it is very light for a Surfjet. As technical exercise sure, good job. Other than than, two thumbs down.

Surfdad, who's the other kid in the skim photos?

You wanna give up any specs on that thing? Length, width, weight, rocker, rails? What changes are you going to make to the next one?
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I don't know about the jet, I had a vision of someone doing a shuv on it! At 30 pounds, that's maybe not so much that you couldn't maybe hit a small roller and either do an air 180 or kick it like hell and do a shuv. If THAT could be done, that would be so cool, in my book!

That extra kid is Mitch, he goes by Wakemitch on here. Mitch and James attend CSU, Sacramento together. He's a talented kid. Rides a little Calibrated skimmer.

That board is 3/4" thick, 51" long and shoootttt. 20" wide, I think!

The guys thought is was pretty slow riding revert, which is all rocker, so I need to mellow that out more. Both James and Mitch prefer a wider tail, James really liked this old round'ish tailed Roush skimmer we had, so I think I'll create a wider tail sort of round'ish. Not really round, but more than a rounded pin. A super fat rounded pin? Then I need to slide the fin back some and make it smaller.

                        That's on the agenda next.
