    Weighting Both Sides for Surfing?

Do any of you weight both sides of the boat when wake surfing? I'm regular, and my kids are goofy, so we like to surf different sides of the wake ... we're looking into ballast, but it seems like a pain to weight one side for them, then drain and fill the other side for me.

Anybody else have this issue? Thanks!

Goofy takes the majority vote. At least thats what we do for whatever boat we are on at the time, we take a vote on how many people are goofy vs regular and weight the majority vote. It is a pain to switch ballast if its not automated.

You can try surfing backside or switch but it just takes practice.

By the way the 23V puts out a huuuge surf wake when weighted right. I put about 800 on the drivers side and about another 200 up front (again on the drivers side)and with a few people on the back corner it gets really fun.

Since my Dad and brother are both goofy, and I'm regular, I started surfing backside for half of the summer, and it's great practice but takes a lot of work and coordination at first. But now it's worth it, and it's really fun to cross back and forth over the rooster tail and surf both sides when it's all weighted down.

Another thing I did was surf regular without weight, and got good at surfing with a small curl, so when the time came, I could ride a washy wave as well as a smooth one. Once again, takes lots of practice, but comes in handy in the long run...

Lastly, and most fun IMO, surfing doubles. It's hard at first because the short ropes pulls the riders together, but once you get up, and can surf any sized wave, it's fun to surf right there along-side your friend.

We generally weight the boat evenly front to back and side to side. We just move people around for whatever side the rider wishes.VAB (Verbally Activated Ballast). I'm a bit of an oddball since I surf regular but prefer backside. I did spend a lot of time this year riding frontside and riding switch just so I could rip both sides, both ways. Chicks dig skills.

I think it was 800lbs on both sides in the rear and 400lbs in the front on both sides and 600lbs of lead through out the boat.

                    ballast

we normally load 1 sack in the v drive compartment we are surfing on along with a sasc on the seat and one on the floor. That wat we only have to empty and fill only the v-drive sack and the other 2, we just roll over to the otherside of the boat. It works well and is not that time consuming. We will discuss this subject in our magazine. Check it out at www.wakesurfmag.com

                    Good luck,

                    Michael

Wakesurf mag!? That's some good news there brother. I've been waiting for a while now. I know the Alliance guys were putting out like a once a year thing but, I didn't see any Alliance ties on the cover of that first issue so I'm assuming that you are not affiliated. I really could give a crap, I'm just stoked on a dedicated publication. How many issues do you guys have planned?

Will you get in trouble if you excede the capacity of your boat with ballast and people. How much ballast is needed for the 2005 22V. How much is too much.

What is the right speed for wakesurfing or do you just have to look at the wake. should you use perfect pass.

I have an '03 23V and have a custom sac made by Fly High...I think theoretically it's supposed to hold around 1,500 pounds. It fills the rear locker and all the way forward up under the bench seat. I use PP set at 10.5 and IMHO, I think the wake is quite nice.

                              weighting a 21i 03'

i've got a 21i 03' and we can weight it with a sac at full under the sky box seat and one at half in the front, and drive straight and be able to surf with out a rope, the wake isn't huge and i am not really sure why it works but it does. and i guess thats all that matters.
oh yeah taps all the way up and speeds at around 14-15 mph. closer to 15. I know it sounds messed up but it works.
