Ronix Koal

Has anyone ridden the Koal board ronix puts out. Would this be a good board for me? I went to the local shop and this was the board they recommended. I'm a newbie only tried riding once before. They recommended the 5'6". I don't really want to spend more than 450 on a board. Thanks for any help.

You've got a good little surf boat there if its set up right. What kind of ballast are you running? This will help determine what kind of board you might want to try. We also need some other factors such as your weight, who else is going to ride it and how much do they weigh?

Are there any pics of your boat around here?

I've never ridden a Ronix anything but, I'll give it a once over.

Not a bad looking board really. I like the rails. Not sure what fins they use but, they are better than wakeboard fins. Nice looking traction pad as well. It does look a little narrow in the forebody but, that's hard to tell without seeing it or riding it in person.

I just barely got two 750lb bags for the boat. Haven't really played around with making a nice surf wake. That seems like another completely complicated task ill be figuring out this summer. i weigh 225lbs. The board is mostly for me and whoever else comes up with me, which is mostly my girlfriend, my two brothers and my father. The girl is afraid of the water and everybody else weighs over 200lbs. I can't find any place in utah that demos surfboards so anything i buy will be a gamble. i love my Ronix wakeboard(especially the custom fit boots) although its a tad bit heavy. The only video i have found was put out by ronix and is brief.

I have a 5 footer. Its good, fast. Pretty fragile though...easy for people to "get better" on is kind of what I found up. Get up and comfortable on the old tank landlock and when the feel comfortable switch them to the Kole and the next thnk you know...no rope!

Those look like Pro Box fin boxes! The single tab base and two set screws on the side for the rail boxes, alternating on the trailer. Without the cant insert that Probox offers. Maybe a Chinese knockoff of the Probox system.

Anybody that owns the Koal, do the rail fins angle out from the base towards the rails? Also, is there an insert down in the box that is removable?

That would be cool if they were using Probox fins!

they are two tab fins. and yes they angle out slighlty. ive rode my buddies inland surfer and i like the ronix better its faster and feels more like an ocean board on the wather

2 tabs? That would make them FCS, in the video the board that Parks was holding looked like a single tab on the bottom to me, might be that was a prototype with Probox, or just my crappy old eyesight and bifocals.

FCS has a nice range of fins, sure sounds like they did a good job with that board.

Don't worry too much about the wake. You are going to have plenty on ballast for that. The only thing you need now is an FAE. if you're gonna surf, especially a D-Drive, get an FAE. Your crew will love you for it.

Also boat related, do a search on here for "transmission slip". If you throw a bunch of ballast and people in the back and try to run 11 mph and you have not performed the service bulletin, it will slip. It's a super easy fix. It just needs more fluid.

No probablem! I got like 15 different fins for it!

We had 2 different Koal's - bought from the Performance Ski and Surf in Orlando. Both arrived damaged mainly because of how fragile they are! Have to handle with care. The back corners busted on both of them! The shop is great and took them back - we have a CWB ride that we learned on and put our beginner friends on and now we have a Ronix Cortez 5'4"- which I love! It's fast, but still pretty easy if you are not an expert.

I would love to get the FAE but i am only a half owner of the boat with my brother. He is young and likes the grumble and says he's not interested. Maybe if we start surfing he will change his mind. Well now i am worried about the fragile boards. We are not the most gentle of families. Maybe the Cortez is the way to go, and its cheaper. We fooled around with the ballast and speed this weekend. The wake looks pretty good but my inexperienced eye probably doesn't know. Ill be posting pics of the wake in a few weeks. and you guys can critique it.

I have the 4'6 Koal and love it. However, as mentioned above it is pretty fragile.
