    Anyone seriously tried Trick/Asylum Boardz?

They both appear to be skim style boards, just slightly different sizes and shapes. Larry offers a pretty aggressive package deal of under $400 for one of each board. The Surf Skate is only 42 inches long which makes me wonder if it would be suitable for my 8YO, 70 pound son to learn on.

I've searched but haven't found much in the way of online reviews for these boards.

I have both the Trick Boardz Surf Skate and the asylum boardz surf skate. Both are great fun. The principal difference is that Larry switch to a foam core for the new asylum boardz. So it's a bit thicker and significatly lighter than the old wooden trick boardz. They are a blast to ride, but they don't trim well. That is to say, if you carve on them constantly, they feel like they are tracking on rails, but if you try and just stand in the wake and ride, they'll slide all over the place. Probably not suitable for a kid to learn on.

However, we used to use the old wooden trick boardz in a small size, the one with the double ended pin tail to teach youngsters. The pin allowed the tail to sink so it trimmed really well for kids, once they were up. Also, being wood, they were a bit heavier and more neutrally bouyant. Smaller folks found that easier to manipulate in the water and so were able to sink the one rail with ease and virtually popped up.

I really liked that board for teaching kids.

The new asylum's are more bouyant, so, IMO, not as easy for folks that have trouble sinking a rail to get up. That said, if your kids have wakeboarded before, they probably won't have any issues with the new foam'ies. The only thing I'd recommend there is a deeper fin.

Larry has one of the best return policies in the business. Principally if you tell him what you're trying to accomplish and it doesn't work, he'll let you return it if the board is just like he mailed it to you, merely for the cost of shipping. It almost makes it a no-brainer for folks that are on the fence.

Larry's a nice guy and won't steer you wrong, I'd definately recommend giving him a call and if you can find one of the old wooden ones, that's the board we typically use for teaching smaller kids.

I might have a wooden Trick Boardz Surf Skate for sale. It is just a little too small for our riders, but would probably be perfect for younger/lighter riders.
PM me if you are interested, it has been lightly used.

Thanks, but I think I'll pass. I asked a trusted friend, a semipro wakesurfer whose opinions I trust, and he has tried the board and doesn't like them.

I've ordered an IS Infectious to get us started.
