My new ride

Thanks everyone.

The folks that build this sort of board for a living claim that they are alive and that any sort of foam deadens the ride. Dennis and I were talking and noting that weight or really a lack thereof improves the ride. I just don't know what it is, but it was great fun! My calfs ache this morning I rode that thing so hard.

@Robert, yeah it'll be at the Polar Bear event. I sent my FlyBoy home with Dennis so that will be available for riding and I'll be riding this board.

@Kona - I know 'bro, I still hate the stuff, I can't tell you how miserable it is to work with - it splits and fights me at every bend. However, the board came out at 3 pounds! I can't get that with foam, no matter what I try.

Two fingers light! (and shut up in advance Robert! ) Judy never touched it so I don't have any pictures of her picking it up. I think Dennis can do this with a 45 pound anchor

@ Kona, sorry man - here is the build thread. It's in reverse order because of the blog format, so that link is the fin box installation and I guess you have to dig down to the start of the project.

I haven't figured out how to do it in regular order other than to finish the project before posting anything?!

That is a cool board! Reminds me of the Inland woody series of boards.

Thanks Timmy! - it does have that same look, doesn't it? All of the Inland Surfer, save for the FlyBoy Division, boards have a layer of wood. I believe it's pine and it's basically a veneer, about 1/42" or so thick...super thin. This board used Balsa sheets - they are sort of stuck together during construction and they are 1/8" thick. What is that 525% thicker? In an over-simplification, the distance between the payers of fiberglass determine the stiffness of that part of the lamination, and it's exponential, so that 525% increase in the distance translates to an increase in stiffness of something like 2500%. But it's still fiberglass so it's not like we went from wet noodles to diamonds, but maybe from a fresh slice of bread to toast

Regardless, the look is cool! I need to find a picture of Dennis' new board, it's strictly airbrushed, but it looks just like wood!

That's impressive for the weight! I saw the build thread, very nice work there! I think if I was ever going to build a board that I would want some wood veneer on it just so I can hang on it on the wall during the winter and it will be a piece of art like yours is (as well as functional)!

How strong is it? And you may have said this, what did you seal it with? Just curious.

I am the KING of the 360 - close It's a normal lamination, has 4 oz fiberglass on the outside and then a second coat of epoxy referred to as a hotcoat or sanding coat...although, I didn't sand it as I was anxious to take it out.

The strength is interesting. Dennis weighs 270 pounds and the board 3, so a multiple of 90 or 9,000%. It handled Dennis from a deep water start and who knows what pressures are working on the board going forward at 11mph and dragging Dennis's 270 pounds up. That has to be a force close to 600 pounds, I'm sure.

BTW Dennis' new board with the airbrushed wood finish is the sweetest looking board I have seen yet.
