I am not familar with the grind water mauka, but as for the broadcast board I can tell you that it is a pretty versatile board that is great for beginners. I started off with this board, my 11 year old daughter surfs it, and have used it to get countless other newbee riders up. For the value a good board! The other advantage is that it is good for larger riders (e.g. 6 foot plus riders or 250 lbs and under.)
right on i did buy the broadcast evo gear had them for 225 free shipping. went out on saturday and was surfing with no rope by the end of the day. i was only using the two outside fins. how many fins do you use?
I have all three in - it makes a little more stable with all fins in. Congrats on free-suefing; you'll soon be in the market for a new board. The sport is like crack - you can not seem to get enough fixes.
