    Comp Vest for Surfing?

    Any thoughts?

I would never use one for anything else, especially after some of the slams I have taken wakeboarding. But with the low impact of surfing I have thought about giving it a shot.

I ride with a helium comp vest, forget what its called, it might be the flak jacket. but its gold, has lumber supper built in (a waist strap kinda thing) and I really like it. Really improves range of motion and is way more comfortable.

I use a non CGA for surfing. I wouldn't send a newb out surfing with it, but i feel comfortable with it for me. I have enough CGA vests in the boat that anyone else that wants to surf will use a CGA.

I use my helium swat USCG approved vest for surfing and wakeboarding but before I got the swat I used a LF comp vest. I only switched when I looked at the boat laws in the various states and more thana few require the skier to wear a uscg vest. I liked my LF comp vest but the swat provides just a little more flotation but it's not as bulky as other uscg vests.

That is all I wear when I surf. I have a Jet Pilot comp vest that makes it look like I have a 6 pack!
I make the beginners wear a USCG approved PFD when they ride. Usually my bulky LF Vest.

Fl requires a USCG vest as well, but the lake we use, I have yet to see anyone out enforcing any rules. I think I will look for a comp vest for surfing, but will require any newbs to us a regular vest.

I love my Helium Swat CGA vest.

And no matter how experienced, you take a hard enough smack to the head from a board popped up out of the water, you better hope that comp vest floats you.

That's what I wear. I picked this vest up at a wakeboard tourney last month for only $60! Feels GREAT and it has little holes to tie your boardshorts through so the vest doesn't flip up when you go down.
