    Tige wakesurfing

I currently own a 2003 Mastercraft X2 which we primarily use for wakesurfing. After experimenting with ballast, we've gotten to the point where we can produce a good size wake. We load the factory ballast on the surf side along with the center ballast. Then, we add about 800 pounds of fatsacs to the surf side locker. We also put 400 pounds on the floor of the boat, towards the surf side, and another 3-400 pounds in the center of the boat, towards the bow. We usually have about 400 pounds of people sitting on the surf side of the boat as well.

    We go at 10.3mph.

I've heard some good things about the Tige surf wake, primarily through the Wake9 guy. We may be in the market for a new boat and while I am very loyal to MC, if I can get a better, longer wake from another quality manufacturer then I'm willing to switch brands.

Anyone have any first hand experience with MC versus Tige surf wakes?

I don't have any first-hand experience behind a MC. However, I was just at the Wake the World event in NC a few weeks ago and pulled some folks who owned a MC. They were raving about the wake behind our boat (22Ve with Pro Ballast option). I'll see if I can get their contact info. They were from somewhere around Lake Gaston, NC.

A guy on our lake has a 08 XSTAR. Last Canada day ( July 1) I surfed it.. Before I say anything he is a loyal MC owner on his second boat, for him he likes his wake... My experience was that the wave had good push, but was not as long and smooth as mine is ( RZ2) I constantly had a spray thrown at me, again I could surf it but it just seemed rough... Kinda like surfing in rough conditions but the water was glass.. It could have been just the XSTAR hull Im not sure.

With your set up, It does seem like you are using more weight then we need to with our boats.

My Boat is 22 feet long, we use a custom 1000LB sack in the rear locker along with Factory ballast and people weight. ( about the same as you 400)

I have surfed a Tige since 07 and honestly have never had a complaint, I think with surfing Tige is going to be at the top of the charts as more people try them.

I was also just at Wake the World in North Carolina. I surfed behind ImaPigDog's 22ve and a 2010 MC X-25. It's hard to say anything bad about a Mastercraft but I will say he loaded it down with a lot (over 2000 lbs) weight and still could not get the boat to lean over very well. The surf wake was not very big. Sweet spot was very small. The 22ve on the other hand loaded down was the best wake I have ever surfed. It was effortless to stay in the wave and surf forever. Made me wish I had factory ballasts in the floor.

At the risk of sounding biased my vote is for the Tige

          Hi,

I have just received a new RZ2 with the surf ballast package. I used my boat for the first time last week end and my kids (20 and 18 years old) have been able to surf without using the ballast at all. We were 4 in total in the boat. The surf wake was perfect and great.

I was able to get out on the lake this weekend and was able to surf the wake on my boat with the basic factory ballast (250 on surf side) and 3 people in the boat. I'm not a small guy (220 lbs). Could it be bigger, oh yeah, I'll definitly be adding the custom locker sacs this winter. I'm very much impressed with the basic set-up, its very clean and has a nice curl to it.

I have a good friend with an X-30. He's a big guy and has never been able to free ride behind his X-30...but he can behind my RZ2. I'm just sayin'.......

I guess that makes me the wake9 guy. ;-) I have some experience with an XStar, and also if you watch the CWB how to wakesurf video, you will see an MC wake, and everything I have seen from MC, the wake is more mush, and you need to be turning to clean it up any.

That is by no means definitive. Although I will say, when another boat throws a good wake, people usually want to prove it to me, and I get lots of video and pictures, and I haven't seen any that blow my skirt up on the MC. Would love to though, I am all for lots of choices, and would love to see a great wake on an MC.

That said, the RZ2 is one of the best and I think the jury is pretty much out on that one. If you live anywhere near northern california, or want to jump on Southwest, we would be happy to take you out with us, and get a good ride, see for yourself.

The wake is broken up and the pocket is shorter on both the mastercraft and Malibu boats, I truly beleive its the hull and taps system that makes the difference with the Tige. Smoother face and deeper pocket, that is why Tige is the SHHHHH!

I surf frequently behind my friends x-45 and I recently purchased a rz4. Both boats do a nice job but the rz4 definitely has a longer trough and better surf wake. My friend couldn't believe how good it was with just the stock ballast at 900 lbs and a few guys in the corner.
