    RZ2 Weighting

Question for the community - after looking at different add on ballasts in addition to my 08 factory ballast; I decided to call my dealer for recommendations. The guy is actually a very knowledgeable individual - with that being said here is what he offered on the boat set-up:

Fill both front tanks full (400 lbs factory) and rear surf side full (250 lbs), 10.6 speed, and taps 5-6. I have been unable to get a wake to push me and have not tried this particular setting. I hate to spend the money on additional ballast - any thoughts on this set-up or any others for a RZ2? I have tried just about everything except what he recommended.

That is very wrong setup. You want much more in back, and much less up front. Also, you want NO weight in front on the opposite side of surfer. You want at least 600 lbs in rear corner on side of surfer, then maybe one person or 150-200 lbs of weight in front on same side. No weight on other side. Better would be about 1000 lbs in rear corner on side of surfing and about 300 lbs of weight up front on side of surfer. People weight counts.

1300-1500 of weight on back corner INCLUDING people weight and 300-400 up front no same side is a GREAT wake. Taps between 3-6 to taste. You may see a lot of turbulence in your wake, if you have the older larger RZ2 swim deck.

I concur with ragboy on that setup. Luckily for you this site has a ton of owners that have countless hours figuring this out for you and you can reap the benefits of their R&D! Have fun out there!

        Here is what I do.
        • 500 in the rear
        • Rear stock ballast tank filled (only the side we are surfing)
        • Front sac filled
        • Another 200- 300 on the seat or floor (same side)
        • Move all people to the same side
        • Speed at 10.6 taps at 5

Keep in mind this is all on the same side we are surfing. The opposite side rear tank is empty however I do keep my front sac full.

What side do you surf? On the 06-08 Tiges with factory ballast, having the hard tanks across the transom forces the battery(s) out into the storage area in the port side. This results a loss of floor space for a sac. I thought this also was a problem on the starboard side, as it was the TAPS motor that was forced out, but I have had a couple owners indicate differently. So, for the Tiges with factory ballast, so far, the ideal sac for the port side is the Fly High W705 Rear Seat Sac. It lays in the floor in front of the battery box and stretches out under the seat storage. I feel it will be at least a 600 lbs addition to the stock tank. It measures 60x26x10.

I would love for someone to post a pic of the starboard side v-drive locker on their 06-08 RZ/Ve with factory ballast.

If you surf the starboard side, and the locker is indeed unobstructed, then there are tons of options from a 400lb W713 sac up to our 1K lb custom sac.

as noted, ballast is a must for an enjoyable surf wake.

Hmmm, I have been filling my front sack full (when no people in bow). Perhaps I will try filling front only about half or 2/3 and allowing the lean of the boat to settle the water on one side.

Edit: Hmmm, Chpthrll just suggested this very thing ...

I wish we had two sacs up there in lieu of the one horseshoe shaped one...

Front weight is not as critical as rear, but it can really throw the wake off if you put front weight on the opposite side. If you have a horseshoe, use people weight, or throw a fat brick on the seat up front. Or go without, and adjust with taps a bit down.

I never run front weight in mine, it seems to wash out the wave too much. When we have a ton of people on the boat there is weight in the front but when it's just my "crew", we never run it.

I have never tried it without the front weight. With weight in the front it seems to work just fine.

However, Im gonna try it out and see how it looks.

A little front weight helps, too much isn't good.

                        Front Weight

I tend to agree on the front weight. What I noticed when I tried this is that the wake got longer, but unless you have enough weight in the rear and side you can not get enough volume to freeboard. My daughter who is 11 can freeboard (drives me nuts an 11 y/o can and I can't). Clearly front weight on the opposite surf side will ruin the wake, but wit the right rear and side weight on the RZ I could see where some or full (400lbs on stock ballast) would give you a little longer wake to surf. With that being said I am going to invest in some sacs. Too bad my factory ballast get in the way of the cutom sac.

Anyone tried the rear horseshoe sac on the RZ? I would be a pain to get in, but other than loading up sandbags in locker I don't have many choices to get the rear weighted down (I need atleast 500 lbs per locker) - stupid factory ballast take up half the locker and only 250 per side. As for the side - there are many options due to enormous storage from the locker to the front of the boat.
