    Wake Surfing Without Ballast?

I know ballast will make the wake bigger, but is the Tige TAPS system enough to be able to surf without adding weight? I am looking at buying a 2004 24v.

Yes, but a bag and a pump can be had for cheap.

We have done it, but ballast makes it alot more fun and easier to do. Even two or three people on the rider side will make it better.
If you decide to put some ballast on a side, you can fine tune your wake with the taps.

i agree with rick rig... taps is more for tuning the shape of the wake

Thanks for the comments. Is the wake noticably bigger on the 24v compared to the 22v because it just weighs more naturally?

Not sure you would notice. If you dont want ballast get a bigger board like this Inland Surfer Red Woody. You could probably wake surf a jet ski with this board. Its the ultimate cruiser, you can go for miles with minimal effort.

(we use ballast normally but in this pic there is none)

Actually, its quite the opposite. Due to the extra surface area of the 2 ft longer hull, it take more weight to sink the 24Ve then it does the 22Ve

                MoodySurf:

Ballast definitely helps. we have a 07 22 Ve w factory ballast (twin rear tanks and v-bag upfront and it was not enough for good surfing despite taps. Weight/size of rider is another factor - smaller folks need less. We got a 500lb fatsac w manual fill from Chptril and works like a charm and whole setup was cheap. HUGE difference. my 2 cnt.

Ballast Ballast Ballast!! What did it for me is when I first rode with 10 people in the boat and saw what the wave looked like when they were all sitting on one side. I was sold at that point. Now when we have 10 people on a side PLUS ballast, well its just stupid how nice the wave is.

yeah man go with some ballast... I got a 20i and was frustrated because I couldn't go ropeless without ballast but for a second or two.... had CHP order me a vdrive jumbo sac (1100#s) and now I can surf without the rope no problem! Its alot more enjoyable this way. It was cheap too! And I would go thru CHPTHRIL because he is fast and reliable!! Ordered on monday telling him I needed it by the weekend and he had it at my door by wednesday!! He's the man!

Thanks to all for the great comments. Leaning toward a newer 22ve and I will get some ballast going.

                          Readyfor ballast

Got a 2007 22ve. Looking to add two 400 lbs Pro X bags to get started with ballast. Can I use these same bags with an auto fill system later?

Sure can, just need to change plugs and quick-conn over to hose fittings.

                            Congrats on the 22Ve

I'm running a '96 pre2200v. I've been wakeboarding a long time but just now starting out in wakesurfing. How should I set up the boat (weight, driving speed, etc.) and what would be the best board to use? I would kinda prefer a skim style board over a surf style.
