Surfing Question and Critique our wave

Here is the best shot of our wave so far.

    Settings
    25% up front
    Full left rear
    TAPS - 4
    Speed 10.2

Had a good run of 30+ secs of slack today, went to throw the rope and the front went under and down I went...

This seems to be my biggest problem is weight transfer. So many times the nose goes under and I can't recover. IS Squirt is the board we are using. Having zero experience surfing are there any tips you guys can share with us?

I'm guessing that's you on the board? 3 things I see right off: 1st, Stance - need to straighten your back and get your weight over your feet. 2nd, your left foot need to be more "toe side" on the board, meaning move your toes toward the edge. 3rd, in that first pic, it looks like you have all your weight on the tail of the board. Try maybe moving either the front foot forward a few inches, or moving both forward just a little. Once you stance is good, it takes very little weight shift to speed up and slow down. Remember - front foot = gas, back foot = break.

Try without any bow weight and maybe increase speed to about 10.5

any people in the boat? if so - put them in the back left corner too - can really help w wave size. we experiment w TAPS 4-6.

btw - getting the hang w no rope can take mucho rides. I'm told a fortunate few get it dialed in fairly quickly but most take dozens. others will chime in - we r still rookies

I will try what you have suggested. Never thought of moving front foot more towards the edge. I am that far back on the board because the nose dives on me so much. But I will definitely take your advice!

Oh yeah - roughly 330lbs people ballast in left corner as well, forgot to mention that.

Stand up straighter, and speed the boat up. I like 10.7+
any slower than 10.5 and the waters to soft. Otherwise just keep practicing!

Might invest in an indo board to work on balance, its a similar feeling to surfing.

My 22ve has 1000lbs all in back and we surf at 11.6 and taps at 5. I would also echo chpthril that your toes need to be closer to the wave, this was one of the best things I learned lately from Dennis Horton plus he also taught me to not be so eager to get rid of the rope. Learn how to get slack in the rope and also learn how to fall back in the wave and catch up.

Go to Wake9.com and watch all the videos too it really helps.

In addition to what everybody else says, in order to keep your speed you need to get the whole edge of the board cutting into the wave. Your board is point out away from the wave and you are riding only on the last part of the board.

Somebody else that I teaching was having problems with this because they thought they were going to run into the boat. You can cut in and out, but if you are trying to keep up your speed, cut into the wake more and point your board to the back of the boat.

Keep trying and you will get it soon!

PS I have about 1100 lbs in my rear locker, more weight = easier wave to surf. Taps about 3.5 - Speed anywhere from 9.8 to 11.5

Moki - That makes perfect sense, when you explain it like that.

I have talked to chpthril in PMs about getting the custom 22Ve Sac for the left side of our boat. I might go ahead and pull the trigger on this because we can't seem to get a lot people ballast lately. Mike expect some pics tomorrow of my sac connections so we can see if this is going to be a simple swap out.

Thanks guys, this thread has been extremely helpful!

Guma- I know I dont have the answer but will that 1000lb sac crush your under-floor tank? Something to think about.

Ok on the subject of dialing in the wake... Do you guys drive the boat straight? This last time I was doing circles but watching some of the videos it seems like most every one else is driving the boat straight....

And I looks like I need to add more weight to the rear corner... And one got some good suggestions on direct drive boats

This is a very good point indeed. I dont see it being a problem, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to add some reinforcing to the false floor.

I cant say for sure about your boat, but do now that the Tige boats to better in a straight line. Some makes out there do need a slight turn tuward the surf wake in order to clean it up.

The Fly High W718 sac is a monster 1150 Lb sac. Only down side is it will take up floor space, but that's pretty much a given with a DD. They just dont have tons of storage for stowing filled sacs. If you have an idea of what kind of weight your boat take to get a good wake? If so, Fly High has an incredible selection of sacs of different sizes, shapes and holding capacities. We can even do a custom for you if needed.

We surf with the left rear sack full (@1400), TAPS at 6 and 11.5 mph. If there are people in the boat, we have them sit on the left side, left back if they don't mind sitting in the sun. I will also run the front sack full if we have a few people in the boat to lengthen out the pocket.
