    Surf Driving Etiquette

Was just reading an article on wakeworld about driving etiquette, and figured we could get something together thats similar. Just a simple list of Do's and Don'ts
    What do you guys think??

Power Turns are a definite NO NO but what else that would be specific to surfing?

I try and stay as far to the right as I can while still going straight, what do you guys do?

IMHO, the biggest thing is to understand that we ALL have a right to use the lake, regardless of what water-sport/activity we are enjoying. Driving safely and with some common sense is always a must, but as far a etiquette, I hate to say it, but those driving tow boats are some of the worst I have witnessed when it comes to etiquette and respect...........despite the fact they have the most seat time and skill.

Wake surf Etiquette specific: Main channel, in the middle as much as possible.

I'm on Lake Lanier north of Atlanta and my important item is to avoid high traffic areas and find spots w few docks or no docks cause the surf wake is large & creates lots of action which could result in damage. Also try to avoid bass guys fishing for same reason.

I try not to drive close to docks, obvious shore spots were people are hanging out, and if people are tied up together relaxing. UNLESS, they are tied up relaxing in an obvious tow area.

That gripes my butt so majorly! We surf in this one cove on my home lake most of the time and there won't be anyone in it. At the end of the cove is a 5 mph / no wake zone, it's maybe 1/4 to the end. Invariably, while we are surfing folks will blast into the main part of the cove and toss anchor, when they could motor another 400 yards and be OUT OF THE WAY. Then have the balls to give me crap because they are anchored, when we've been riding there for 3 hours.

You don't own the damn water because your anchor is out! Go into the 5 zone where you aren't impacting others! Almost worse than tubers

I almost never boat on the weekends. I believe the biggest wave makers are those 30+ footers and tubers. Tubers have some of the worst respect to others and their riders. Power turns and no way to predict their path for a safe pass. I don't know how many times I have seen tubes being towed by outboards or I/O with riders almost be whipped into boats moving or not, docks, or even swimmers. Two things I will never do is tube or let someone else drive my boat towing a tube.

I think its safe to say, that we all REALLY dislike tubers and Powerturns. It urks me seeing guys with the 24 foot wakesetter and Xstars and X-45's on my lake just tubing. Those boats are designed to make monster wakes....that they are just using to destroy the water!

Why in the world would you want to be anchored in the main area if there is a 5mph calm zone? People don't use common sense!

I feel like when most people get to the lake, common sense goes out the door.

I tube all the time. That's the favorite thing for younger kids. At our lake there are plenty of areas that are never calm even if there isn't a boat on the water. Nobody is ever anchored there. We just keep it in a small area and away from other boats. If for some reason someone needs to come through I always slow down or stop cause I don't want the people on my tube getting hurt.

Guys driving Wakesetters etc strictly to tube should be forced to ride this.
