Love the concept - way cool. I'm not a design engineer (but a pilot) and seems the bottom plywood plate is too thick and does not appear to be aerodynamic as a lifting surface like an airfoil or aircraft wing. Lift is generated by the curvature of the wing. Perhaps u r going to apply fiberglass to add some curvature and enable smoother hydro-dynamics. Have u looked at the air-chair? also looks like not much height to lift out of the water. my 2 cents.
I swiped the idea and shape from Brett of Surffoils. They have successfully stood on the boogie board behind a boat. I'll actually sand some foil into the bottom of the foil as soon as I can find my belt sander!
It actually worked! Not at 10mph, as I needed, but it started to generate lift around 14 - 15 mph. Definately doable to freesurf. I need to change the angle of the foil - actually FOIL the foil and make it about 300 sq in.
