Wakesurf Board - Help selecting next board.

    Looking for a little help.

    Some basic info:
Most everyone that will ride this board will be between 180 and 220. I'm closer to the heavier end of that scale.

I run about 1000lbs of ballast on each side of my 24ve.

I have a Inland Red Tide, great to learn on but not very easy to maneuver and hard to ride if choppy.

Have tried the CWB Tsunami, can free ride but have to work very hard to stay in the wave.

I would prefer a board that was more geared for spinning than getting air or cruising.

    Any suggestions
    thanks

A Comp X 5.0 would be great, intermediate board, but can work for newer people. The bullet 5.0 is a bit more advanced, just basically how aggressive you want to get. The comp x is a board that you can get a bit cheaper also, a good "boat board". If you want to easily go to the 220 weight size, and even up to 250, you want a 5.0. You can contact me offline for more info, I am still working on getting stock. I like inland boards also, but that weight is kinda inbetween, and I think the blue lake is a bit big.

      Thanks for the response Ragboy.
I had a friend recommend a CWB Razr but I'm guessing that it would be similar to the Blue Lake. I don't have anybody that tops the 220 scale, so would the 4'8" comp x board be better than the 5'0" or will it be a lot tougher to keep in the wake (the pocket in my wake is not very big).

It depends on the wake of your boat. I have a 24Ve, and my wake would be fine with a 220 rider and 4'8" if the guy was a decent rider. Take into consideration, that you are looking for a "boat board" as I like to call it. One board to do multiple duty. The extra 2 inches can really make a difference when teaching someone, that extra surface area for floatation, but the extra 2 inches probably will not hinder much on performance.

Since you are in Irvine, I may be able to get you a demo board to try for a bit, you would just have to leave a deposit or something. I can check what may be available. Contact me off list for that, go to wake9.com and the contact section and that will go direct to my email.

            Zany;
Make sure to check out the ShredStixx JaMako. It's based after the "Thresher" model, but for bigger guys. I wiegh 190, and love the board. You can see it in the "August Pics" thread.

They are also good boards, I just have never had much experience/demo time with them. RJ has ridden Alec Woods board from last year, I think it was the thresher, he liked the smed and the walkers better. But just preference.

Does this board spin good, I see myself more into spins then air.

Anything with a quad fin will not spin good, or as good. ShredStixx makes twin fins also, which would spin better, but their boards are definitely not known for being able to spin, more for surf style tricks and getting air. The Comp X is similar to the green loogey was in the sense that is designed to be a hybrid of surf style and skim. It will drive and ride like a surf board, but its twin config and setup will make it a bit easier to spin and do surface tricks than a full surf style board.

                    Thanks Ragboy,
That explanation makes a lot of sense.

Ragboy is hooking me up with a Walker Comp X 5.0 for this weekend.

I will report back on this board next week.

Not that this is any surprise, but Ragboy is great to work with.

The asylum Surf Skate large is known to be good for a rider of 210#, may be a tad small for the 220# rider though. The asylum Mojo Grande would be an excellent choice as well for bigger riders or smaller wake; probably up to about a 240# rider. asylum boardz are easy to spin, especially the Surf Skate. As far as I know, he is still only in testing. He spoke to me recently about them. It is the same guy that does the fresh air exhausts.
