You mean Rob? I can't say that I know him very well, but seems like a nice guy. Seems to be very passionate about the wakeboarding scene and promoting it's growth. I admire anyone that devotes the time and their own resources to promote a sport or activity in the manner that he has done it. I say to him Rob!

UNCW good school! Where you there for the comp?

Oh Ok, I didnt know if you knew him personally from the comps. I wasent there at that one, im home for summer now it costs to much to drive back down there, haha

This was in Willmington NC on the Cape Fear river. This was the first comp for the 08 Carolina Wake series which is a earned points series working towards a championship at the end of the season for being #1 in points. We actually will be in Knoxville later this summer for a CWS stop, maybe we will see you there......................

          Thanks man!

We are heading to Lake Anna tomorrow for a Glass & Powder comp that was suddenly canceled for no reason, so we will just go there and play all weekend. Next comp. will be a local one here on the 21st, hopefully we can get another win in.

            Congratulations! That is awesome.

Any hints on what to teach little kids? My sin just turned 8 and I got him a wakeboard for Christmas. What do you recommend?

If you have access to a jet ski, try starting him with that until he can get up on the board and maneuver around. Whether or not you use your boat, start slow because it takes far less speed to float a kids board.

I don't have a jetski, but I can go slow using the boat.

He is only 8 but weighs about 75 lbs, very tall for his age. Any hints on how to teach a kid?

I helped many people get up, but teaching a kid is a little different.

Ok, go slow. Make sure they don't push against the board...just have them relax their legs. It's ok if they ride on their butt for a while.

Don't use any ballast and do it in an area where there aren't a lot of boats.

You really only need to go about 10 Mph at first. Make sure you start real gently.

It helps if they've been up on trainer skis first. That way they get the experience of riding on the water.

I tried last year, I even got in the water with him to help hold the board in the right position before the boat start pulling.

The trainer is a good idea! We have not being out yet, the weather has not helped this year. He is really excited to get up this year, I just hope I can help him.

Update on the scene. No more first places so far this year but, 2nd's and 3rd place podiums have added up. In a few of the comps my son has had to ride against, pro or near pro riders, so being able to place with that kind of company is pretty good. My son is currently 2nd in points for the Carolina Wake Series championship run (Open division). Gonna be working real hard to win the championship for the open division. So far it has been a hard grueling summer with a lot of travel just to keep up. Check out the links the series we have been competing in.

                            Season's over

Well the seaon has finally ended. We have one more event next weekend and it is actually a for fun event, the riders have to wear costumes for the whole halloween thing.

Kyle ended up finishing 2nd in the CWS points championship for the Open division. http://carolinawakeseries.com/info.html He was perfectly in position at Wilimington a week ago to take 1st place, he was only 100 points behind 1st and blew it on day two. On day one he smoked them all, advanced to final day and then rode horrible on day two and didn't even place for that event. I guess he cracked under the pressure. So 2nd for the season overall isn't bad but not what we were shooting for. His ability and tallent certainly derserve better than that. He will just have to learn how to beat the butterflies.

I have included a few pics from the weekend, Mom, Dad (me) and the youngest Brenden. A pic of the event site and the hot shot rider getting ready for his run. He stayed out too late the night before hangin with all of the other riders, Keith Lyman, Adam Fields so on an so forth. If he had gotten more sleep the right way, the outcome may have been diferent.

Anyway, just wanted to share. Until next season....................

2nd isn't bad considering all the events and times he rode this year. He did a great job and there is always next year.

Congrats on a great season! My son came in second to Matt Kirk in the INT Expert division. Matt is very consistent rider - so to be so close going into the last tournament says a lot for your sons level of riding. Thanks for sharing and have a good time next weekend.
