I would go with 2, and I would ski around 24 MPH. But I also think when you are ready for 1 ski, you should go full throttle till you are up, then back it down, and ski 24-26 till you get better.

Of course this is just my

That should be the right sized ski for you. If you can and don't get frustrated to easily, I would go ahead and skip the 2 skis and try to slalom. It doesn't hurt anything. Give it a try, if you can't get up, go to 2. I would say 25-26 mph to start. If you feel that you are having to hold yourself up, speed up a little.

I would try getting up full throttle and easing into it. See what works better for you. I've seen both ways work well for people.

Whatever you do, don't start with 2 and then drop one. We had a guy do that out here a few years back and the ski he dropped broke his other leg...compound fracture. Bad news on a lake, they had to airlift him out. Kinda neat seeing a helicopter land on the boat ramp next to my house, but a real bummer for the guy.

Start with the two and when you feel comfortable drop the ski with out the rear strap and work on slalom.

The size of your slalom water ski is very important. You want a water ski that best suits your skiing speed and body weight. Refer to the below chart for sizing. Determine your weight on the left column and the boat speed across the top. This is how you select the length of your slalom water ski.

Where ever the rider is comfortable and the wake palatable. It is based on your boat and the weight of the rider.

I do not recommend dropping the hammer fully to get a slalom skiier out of the water. While extra juice is needed, full throttle pulls are hard on the arms, shoulders and upper and lower back. Our boats have plenty of power at less than full throttle to quickly yank even a heavier skiier (230lbs) out of the water. Really, the amount of throttle again is based on how much a skiier weighs.
