    JOBE 1983xp

Need recommendation for a new h2o ski for intermediate old fart thats still skiing on a 65" 1983 Jobe xp....?

Just getting back into it with my new 22ir, and know the water ski technology has changed significantly since 1983, what would you young bucks recommend? or you older studs still cutten it up out there?

Check out HO's burner or charger. The burner is a 67" and the charger is a 69". Both are shaped, stable skis for intermediate skiiers. You can ski them fast and they are very forgiving, or ski them slow and they will carve nice turns. They don't take the effort that a competition ski takes to get out in deep water starts. I have seen some guys ride them up to 34-35 mph and still cut hard. These would be a great choice for the 22i which has a decent, not great, ski wake below 32 mph. I ski an 2002 HO ASX which is like the CDX, but with a 1" wider base. But I have to ski it fast (35-36mph) behind my 22i for it to perform, otherwise the bump from the wake is pretty steep at slower speeds. I can ski it slower behind my buddies Prostar 190 because obvisouly the wake is smaller. If I decide to ski slower like 28-30, I will ski an older connely concept. It is more forgiving over the wake then my ASX.
Demo a few skis before you buy. Your local ski shop should be more than happy to help you out.

Most ski shops will let you demo a ski for 24-48 hours before you commit, at least the ones in my area do. Just call around and ask before heading out. That would suck to drop some good dough on a ski that doesn't work for you. Just tell them your situation, and they should help point you in the right direction. Stress to them that you will treat the ski with care, and would happy to leave a deposit in case it flies out of the boat or something!! LOL!

I wish the wake on the 22i was a bit flatter for skiing, but then again, I do use it to board much more than I slalom. The wife actually slaloms more than anyone else behind it and she absolutely loves it!

Let me know how the search goes!

            HO

I too bought one of the HO shaped skis after demoing several. I love it and found that I can turn it sharper than my skinny ski because I don't sink when I burn off speed. Get ups are a bit diffrent with this wide boyent ski but I cought on quickly. The shop I use will demo skis with a deposit and $25 per day. Any payment is applied to the cost of a purchase. I used to shop for skis from the catalogs but have found a good pro shop is worth the extra money.

              ho magnum or charger

I have skied on aggressive tournament skis for years. I have a friend with a HO Magnum and skied it. I bought a Charger, same ski just 2" shorter, they are great for the recreational skier. I still have the tournament ski, but there are times I just don't want to ski that hard and the HO's are great for just having a good turn
My dad always said "Stupid Hurts". He's yet to be proven wrong, but for some reason I keep trying.
