2006 V Drive Prop Shaft Seal Question

So... I have my boat at the dealer for the throttle handle for the 3rd time. I asked them to look at a leak that I have coming in from the prop shaft seal. They said, "it probably just needs to be tightened." Cool, easy enough.

I get a call today from the dealer and it is bad news. The seal is bad. It is a seal that Tige only used a couple of years and stopped using due this very issue. So, now they say they have to replace the seal assembly for a different kind of seal because they don't make that one any more. Since thay need to disassemble the V-drive assembly it going to run $600 to $700. 4 hours of labor and $200 for the parts.

Does this sound right? If Tige stopped using this specific seal because of this issue, shouldn't this be a warranty issue?

A little insight would be great. Thanks.

Did they tell you what the years were that they had problems with the seals? I have a 07 and was just wondering if I need to watch out for that, or maybe it was 06 and earlier.

Ask what was used and what is used now.

i would think this would be a recall/warranty issue since it is a problem they found with their own product. But on the other hand, this dealer could be looking for a lil extra cash in these hard times... I really don't know what to say.
