    uh oh....

ok the last two times i went out i started up the boat backed it off the trailer and warmed it up and got under way.. less than 5 min from the time i started it " BEEP" and the boat shut off. everything still worked just the fuel pump didnt kick on. so i turned it off and on and still no fuel pump. just heard a clicking around the air cleaner which i supposed is normanl if something up there engages evey time u turn the key on.. just kept try and after about 5 min dead in the water i turn the key , hear the fuel pump kick on and bang .. starts up and rund great and starts great for the rest of the day.. this is a 2006 22v with a 340 hp in it. i bought it in feb with 67 hours and it has over 150 on it now and we didnt start gounig out till april real so i have ran it alot and run 2000 of ballast .. just had a service at 75 hours. so any ideas guy ??

    thanks in advance

On our boat with the Merc engine there are 2 relays near the air cleaner. One is for the fuel pump and will click every time the ignition switch is turned ON. A relay can go out at anytime. You might try hooking up a voltmeter to the output side of the fuel pump relay and cycle power a number of times to see if 12v is consistently getting there. I had an accessory marine circuit breaker act up recently that would not engage every 10th time or so.

Otherwise, the pump could have gotten hot and just stopped until it cooled down. Or, the fuel line was clogged, but cleared. Loose power connection to the pump.

Yeah, I was going say maybe some debris in your gas that's clogging the fuel filter. I change out my filter every 100 hrs.

A relay is a mechanical contact between two electrical contacts that is opened and closed when voltage is applied to the coil. It is possible for this connection to work sometimes and then sometimes not when it is starting to fail. Once it fails completely though it won't work again. If you constantly have voltage going to the coil and it works once in a while then it is probably going bad. Another point to check voltage is at the fuel pump itself, take the rubber connector plug off and check voltage at the two points inside the connector.
