Can't find a steering cable

Having problems locating a steering cable. '01 2300V. Rotary steering, 17ft cable and looks like the new part number should be Teleflex #SSC-5217. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is no direct Teleflex replacement cable. I think you have a Morse rotary system and they went out of business or were bought by Teleflex. I understand that the U-Flex M66X17 is the replacement cable for your system if you have the Morse 290 rotary helm. Otherwise, you can get the Teleflex Quick-Connect rotary system for a little more money. I believe the new helm has the same bolt pattern. BTW, if you have a rotary system, Teleflex said stay with a rotary and do not change over to a rack system.

Actually there is a direct replacement cable. According to pg. 8 of this Teleflex manual -

the SSC52xx series cables are replacement for the Morse 290 cables.
Morse was bought by Teleflex a few years ago.
I replaced a rotary helm for a rack & pinion in our last boat which worked out great, but there just isn't enough room under the dash in our Tige for one to fit without rebuilding the dash.

Looks like your boat and our 2000 21V use the same cable. I finally found the number printed on the top of our cable near the helm - Morse 304411-000-0204.0. The cable is 204 inches or 17 feet long. This crosses-over to a Teleflex SSC5217. There seems to be very few places carrying them on the internet. If the helm wears out the Morse 290 tilt rotary helm can be upgraded to a Teleflex Safe-T QC II (Quick Connect - no tools required to hook up cable) tilt rotary helm - SH1535094 which requires Telflex SSC61xx series steering cables. In our case a SSC6117. If the SSC52xx cables becomes obsolete the SSC61xx cables can be used with the 3924516P adapter.
