I'm not sure about the PCM motors but if the PCM has a re-circulating fuel pump then a regular fuel flow meter is not going to work. I've heard they do make fuel flow meters for re-circulating type fuel pumps but I've never actually seen one advertised.

I have the Merc 350 MPI and my Navman is consistently accurate to +/- 1 gallon.

The dealer put in the nav man 2100. It does not work because the unused fuel is returned to the pump. My other fuel guage isn't working at all, it's not just off it reads full all the time. As soon as the key is on it pegs to full and stays there, I went through 38 gallons and it didn't mave off of full. Is the faria gauge compatible with the PCM motor and fuel pump system?

        Wingnut:

Our boat has the Tige GM Vortec (Marine Power) 340HP 5.7l V8.

I could not tell you if the unit I have would work on your specific engine. Give the folks at Fariah a call to see if they have something that will work for you. They have a few different gauges.

I found this number at their website:
        Fariah Customer Service Department: 1-800-473-2742

        This is their website:
        http://www.faria-instruments.com/index-new.html

The Tige gas gauge in our boat is not much better than your non working gauge. It begins to move off the full position after we have used 17-20 gallons of fuel, and it only moves down to the halfway mark when there's only have 4-5 gallons left in the 38 gallon tank.

        Question:
In your case - if the unused fuel is returned to the pump, couldn't the dealer put the navman sensing unit before the pump (between the tank and the pump). It seems to me that by doing this, it then wouldn't register the fuel twice. I'm not a mechanic, but it's a question I'd raise.

Andrew at Tige' is checking with PCM and calling Tige MD. I don't know if it is going to work from what he is telling me. I gues there is a fuel pump in the fuel cell or something and the fuel is pumped to the motor and then the excess is returned to the tank. I would think there is a sytem that reads fuel leaving and fuel returning that would give me an accurate reading. I'll let all know what the answer is if it is found. I am also wonderng if when a problem arises Tige' calls the MD, what are we going to do with out that guy? Good luck to the MD, I wish Tige' would do whatever to keep that guy around. You don't find guys like that very easy.

I believe the answer to will this work on this engine or that engine is not a simple yes or no. It can depend on where on the engine the meter is installed. On my '04 MarinePower engine, I installed the NavMan in the fuel line between the gas tank and the factory filter/pump assembly. This engine also has a return line from the fuel rail/injectors to the pump. So by installing it where I did, it only reads the amount of fuel consumed, not circulated. But I did have to install an additional filter since I was measuring unfiltered fuel.

If the PCM doesn't return the fuel to the tank, they could do the same thing on it. I hope that this made sense.

floscan Fuel flow meter is the answer

I found that Floscan makes a unit that will work. It is model # 5832-231-2. Their number is 206-524-6625. I have agreed to pay the $200 upcharge because this meter is that much more than the nav man the dealer installed, but I feel the labor should be covered by the dealer because, they installed the one the salesman recommended and thier mechanic said would not work. That should be an internal issue. I will recover the expense one way or the other. We'll see Andrew is calling the dealer to have the owner call me. I'll let you know.

you said the navman will not work? you must have a pcm, from what i understand the pcm has a return line to the tank. i just found this out yesterday.

I do have the PCM motor and it does have a return line. The Floscan has two transducers and reads the difference between them. Sounds like it should work great. I'll see next week.
